Students of Primary (Grade 1 to 5) celebrated Independence Day on 31st May, 2015. The
celebration began with the beautiful patriotic song sung by the students of Grade 1and 2.
Nazifa and Ridwan of Grade 5 expressed their opinion and shared their views regarding this
day. The students of Grade 4 and 5 enchanted all by their colourful dance performance which
was followed by their patriotic song. The celebration ended with the national anthem.
On Tuesday, 31st March, Grades 6-9 also celebrated the Independence Day. The Celebration
began with a Flag hoisting ceremony at the Basketball Grounds of the school where all
students gathered there and Principal Sir Hoisted the Bangladeshi Flag and showed respect
and solidarity. The students then enjoyed an Independence Day Celebration at the School
Auditorium.

Grade 10 Mock 2 (Final Exams) began on 31st
Grade 11 and 12 Parent Teacher Meeting was held on 19th March 2015 .The main purpose was to distribute report cards of Mock 1
and inform the parents about each student’s academic performance. They also discussed different steps to improve their child's
performance.
The report card distribution along with a Parent Teacher’s Meeting was held on Saturday, 21stMarch 2015 for Pre Primary - Class 2.
Class teachers handed over the report cards of the Midterm Examination along with individual subject reports to the parents. Parents
were able to discuss with the class teachers and other subject teachers their wards’ development.
Parents Teacher’s Meeting for grades 3 - 9 was held on Wednesday, 25thMarch 2015. Class teachers handed over the report cards of
the midterm examination along with individual subject reports to the parents. They discussed the performance of the students in the
examination and how further progress can be made. They also tried to answer any queries of the parents and resolve any problems
they may have been facing.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
The Program commenced with a short speech about the independence in both Bangla and English which was followed by a remarkably
creative drama skit depicting the tragedy of Freedom Fighters in the Liberation War. This skit was done by the students of Grades 6 & 7.
The drama was followed by a foot-tapping dance number and a melodious Patriotic Song which was performed by students of Grades 6
and 7. The celebration ended with the National Anthem. Students thoroughly enjoyed the drama and it was received with nothing short
of applause and cheer.
A special assembly was held on the 22nd and 23rd of March 2015 in observation of the birthday of Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The assembly began with the recitation of the Surah Fateha followed by an introductory speech on the Life of Bangabondhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman.
A melodious song “Bangabondhu” was then performed by the students along with a famous poem depicting Freedom called “Mukti
chora” which was recited. After that, students enthusiastically danced to” Joy Bangla … Banglar joy” and the assembly concluded with
the singing of the National Anthem.
The Playgroup and Nursery grades created a
colourful atmosphere in and around their
classrooms to welcome the grandest season:
Spring! Children came wearing colourful floral
attire to School on Saturday, the 28th of
February, to enjoy this season. Most of the
girls wore floral tiaras, garlands and wrist
bands and the boys carried different kinds of
fresh flowers.
The green play area was decorated and
children enjoyed the beauty and warmth of
nature while having their snack outside.
Children also made beautiful 3-D butterflies
with chart papers, poster colours and glitters to take home. Overall, it was a fun filled day for the children as well as for the teachers.
Pepsodent Bangladesh arranged an Art competition for the school children. It was called “Smile Bangladesh” campaign to celebrate the
world’s Oral Health Day on 20th March 2015. About 2000 Artworks collected from Renowned English medium schools of Dhaka. Eighty-
five art works were selected as the best works where thirty-five art works were from DPS STS School Dhaka. Finally, certificates, gift
packs, were given to all children before leaving. Our school was given a crest.
To bring out children’s ideas and their inner Picassos, Pepsodent Bangladesh arranged a get together program on 20th March, at
Emmanuelle Restaurant, Gulshan Dhaka. The program was titled “Little Dentists Ideas Hub” and selected children and their parents along
with teachers were invited. Renowned and world famous artists like Mustafa Monowar, Rafiqunnabi, Shimul Mustafa, Moniruzzaman
were present at the program with the wonderful anchoring of celebrity anchor Munmun. Guests were received warmly with a dentist’s
apron for every child along with funny dentist toys as gifts. All the artworks of the selected children were hanged on the wall to recognize
their talent.
On the 13th, DPS STS Students of Grades 9 and 11
participated in the Interschool Rock fest 2015. It was held
in the APBN RAB 1 Field. A total of Four Schools
Participated in this event including DPS STS School Band
(Chapter 3), Scholastica, Aga Khan School and St. Joseph
Higher Secondary School. There were Two guests bands as
well: Shunno and Jofola.
Chapter Three Band members from DPS STS School included Tanzil (11), Nourose (11), Nahian (11), Rizvan (11) Abrar(9), Urbana (9) and
Zaki (9). They performed a variety of songs ranging from Maroon 5 and Evanescence cover songs to their own original compositions.
The Biochemistry Olympiad is an
interschool competitive program
held yearly, and this year they
successfully accomplished their 6th
year in testing the scientific skills and
knowledge of students by means of
multiple choice questions (MCQs)
relating to the subjects Biology and
Chemistry. With O’level and SSC
candidates from 43 schools and A
‘Level and HSC candidates from 35
schools, the examination took place
at Curzon Hall, Dhaka University,
which lasted for an hour and consisted of 75 questions. Events included Bio Park inauguration, visiting the Department of Biochemistry
and Molecular Biology at Dhaka University, lecture sessions and participant feedback. After an Olympiad speech, the event concluded
with the closing ceremony featuring special guests, including professors of Dhaka University. The day concluded with the result
announcement, following which the students returned home.
On 16th March 2015, DPS STS School Dhaka participated in the Daily Star 16th Award Presentation Ceremony. The program was held at
Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium, Mirpur, to honour the students who achieved outstanding results in the O’ and A’ Level
examinations (2013-2014). Education minister of Bangladesh, Mr Nurul Islam Nahid, and British High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Mr
Robert Gibson, were the chief and special guests of the occasion.
TRAININGS / WORKSHOPS / SEMINARS
Six A’ Level and 27 IGCSE candidates of DPS STS School Dhaka were presented with the awards. Four students of DPS STS School received
awards for the Highest Marks in the Country.The Principal, Mr Harsh Wal, Vice Principal, Ms Madhu Wal, Deputy Secondary Head, Ms
Tarana Majid Ahmed, Board Exam Coordinator, Mr Mostafizur Rahman Mridha, and Teacher, Mr Nasir Uddin, of the school were present
in the ceremony to represent the school and cheer the award winners.
On Monday, 9th of March, Grade 10 students of DPS STS School attended an educational seminar conducted by the Malaysian
Universities Application Center (MUAC) on different universities in Malaysia at the school campus. The seminar was conducted by Mr.
Syed Imran Ahmed, the Managing Director of MUAC and representatives of six different Malaysian universities spoke to the students as
well. The representatives were from the following universities:
Swinburne University of Technology, (branch campus of the Australian University)
Manipal International University
University of Kuala Lumpur
UCSI University
KDU University
MAHSA University (Medical University)
The students gained useful knowledge on the living costs and benefits for higher studies in Malaysian Universities.
From 30th March till 2nd April, Vice Principal of DPS STS School, Mrs. Madhu Wal attended a
Professional Training Workshop at APU (Asia Pacific University) in Japan.
Training sessions were held by IT Manager for EDMODO IT Training for all teachers Department Wise throughout the Month of March.
2015
Maithreyan Ponraj of KG Jupiter participated in Athletic Meet 2015, organized by India Association
held at ISD on 13th of March. For his participation he was awarded with a medal and a certificate.
AISD (AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
DHAKA) and DISA (DHAKA INTERNATIONAL
SCHOOL SPORTS ASSOCIATION) organized an
Athletic Meet 2015 on the 12th and 13th of
March. It was a two-day programme and 13
International Schools participated. Ten
Students from DPS STS School participated who
varied from Grades 2, 9, 10, 11 and 12. There
were 3 Girls and 7 Boys altogether who
participated out of which 1 girl and 4 boys
qualified for the Final rounds. Shafqat Zaman
of Grade 12 earned the 1st position while
obtaining the Gold Medal for breaking the 10-
year record of the Shot Put throw covering a
range of 11.75 meters.
2015
On the 13th of March, Students of DPS STS School participated in an International Basketball tournament hosted by the ISD. In this
tournament, 8 Schools from Dhaka participated out of which AISD played the 1st Match against DPS STS School ending in a loss for DPS
STS Students with a total of 18 - 15. DPS STS School won the 2nd Match against Green Herald School closing in with 44 Points victoriously
and then in the Semi Finals, DPS STS School was defeated by Scholastica School closing in with a total of 42 - 47. DPS STS School achieved
4th Position in the Tournament.
2015
International School Dhaka (ISD) & American International School Dhaka (AISD) organized a Dhaka international School football league
where 12 Schools participated as they were divided into two groups. The results are as follows:

This brought the DPS STS League up to the 3rd position ranking of 2nd Runner up. Congratulations to Marjuq Shafi Haq (Grade 12) for
receiving the Best Player Award in the DHAKA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL FOOTBALL LEAGUE- 2015.
New CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of STS, Mr. Parvez Saiful Islam, visited
DPS STS School on the 11th of March, along with Mr. Faisal Kader COO
(Chief Operations Officer) of DPS STS Dhaka.
Mr. Ranjith, Computer teacher was blessed with a baby boy on March 6th
Mr. Fazlul Haq, Physics Lab assistant was blessed with a baby boy on December 26th, 2014.
Shegufta Hasan (Economics Teacher) Ma’am’s father passed away on 19th December. DPS STS expresses its heartfelt condolences to the
family of the deceased.
