Assalamualaikum wr wb, may peace be upon you.
Excellences, honorable guests, ladies and gentlemen. Selamat Pagi. Good morning.
I am glad to see professors, speakers and participants of the IGS 2017 program. I understand most of you come from a long distance and visit this university for the first time. Allow me to welcome you all to our university, Universitas Gadjah Mada. I understand that you have been here for a few days now and hopefully have enjoyed the hospitality of our people in Yogyakarta.
Universitas Gadjah Mada is very happy and proud to host such an important event as the International Graduate School 2017. We have conducted hundreds of international event but this is special since this is the first AC21 event in Indonesia. We are honored to be trusted as the host of such an important event by a highly respected consortium. I hope that the professors, officials and students are as excited as we are.
This year, the theme of the program is “Community and indigenous-based technology for sustainable development towards resilient society”. Studies have shown that our society is relatively vulnerable to different kinds of threats. Natural or anthropogenic disasters, food and water security, human security and safety issues, climate change are just name a few issues that are nowadays facing or society. In short, the resilience of our society is in danger and the sustainability of our life is at stake. Therefore, efforts to deal with such threats must be in place and they have to be done collaboratively.
Members of AC21 view that education must stand at the forefront when it comes to dealing with threat to our society. Resilient society can only be achieved through enlightening education and also through trans-border and trans-disciplinary approach. Achieving resilient society is not exclusively the domain of one particular field of study; it is the responsibility of all disciplines through collaborative efforts. Conducting summer school where students from university members of AC21 can collaborate and learn from each other is one good practice that we have been doing since a few years back. With respected speakers from different disciplines, now UGM is proud to continue this good tradition.
3
I would like to thank all speakers, professors, lectures, officials and participants from all over the world for your kind participation. I am sure you all will learn from each other and become enriched after the program. I also sincerely thank our colleague from the Office of International Affairs under the leadership of our Vice Rector for Cooperation and Alumni. I understand each of you in the team has been working so hard since last year to make this happen. Thank you!
I hope everybody will enjoy the event and please not to forget also to enjoy the warmth of Yogyakarta, the never ending Asia. I wish you a productive and fruitful event. Thank you.
Wassalamualaikum wr wb.

It is primarily used as a complementary alternative medicine approach.TCM is widely used in China and it is also used in the West. Its philosophy is based on Yinyangism (i.e., the combination of Five Phases theory with Yin-yang theory). In ancient China, the treatment to cure diseases are various, e.g. acupuncture, guasha and huoguan. The herbal medicine commonly used are red ginseng and dried seahorses. For the modern Chinese medicine, Prof. Zhang took an example on how to use Honeysuckle-encoded atypical microRNA2911 directly targets influenza A viruses. His recent research is the use of honeysuckle to cure Ebola viruses.

Lecture topic: Indigenous knowledge-based medicine based on Indonesian Herbal Medicine Study. Summary Medicinal plants have accompanied the development of indigenous Indonesian traditional treatments to form a holistic medication. The knowledge were passed down from one generation to the next through oral tradition and daily rituals. Medicinal plants are used to maintain and promote the human health, prevention, as well as to reduce symptom of diseases. Many clinicians still have skeptical thinking towards herbal medicines, due to the lack of scientific evidences
In evidence-based medicine era, a program to provide scientific support of medicinal plants usage is necessary. In Indonesia, the approaches include: the establishment of herbal medicines to phytopharmaca done by pharmaceutical industry to provide a good quality and clinically proven herbal, product more prescribed by clinicians Isolation of new active compound(s) and take longer time to reach the market Jamu scientification program (Health Minister’s regulation, nb. 003/2010). The usage of herbal medicines is still prominent and take an important role as an complementary/alternative to conventional or synthetic medicines Medicinal plants are good resources of medicines/drug discovery. Indigenous based-knowledge can be used as a direction to develop herbal medicine products to be more widely accepted in health care
