(AFOC), one of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Division of Adult and Career Education schools. AFOC has been providing high-quality, low-cost education and training since 1968.

Offering low cost job training, free ESL and academic classes.

You can earn a high school or CA High School Equivalency Certificate, train or retrain for a new career.

REGISTRATION/ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTSEnrollment is in the counseling office. Most classes require a placement test to determine the appropriate level.Any person 16 years of age or older is eligible for enrollment. Those under 18 must have approval from their parent, home school, and AFOC Administration. Enrollment must be confirmed by attendance at first class meeting. Under the continuous enrollment policy, vacancies at the first class meeting will be filled immediately.

FEE INFORMATION1. Enrollment fees must paid at the time of registration2. Student I.D. ($10 per school year) valid 7/1/16-6/30/173. High School Students are exempt from all fees.

REFUND POLICYFees will be refunded ONLY under the following conditions and a $20 drop/withdrawal fee will be applied.1. Student withdraws and requests a refund within 7 calendar days

following the first scheduled class session after enrollment.2. Fee was paid in error.3. Class is closed by Administration.

COUNSELING SERVICESGuidance services provide information to assist in making a selection from the wide range of occupational offerings and educational options.

SUPPORTIVE SERVICESEducational services are available for all students, veterans, and adults with disabilities as well as referrals from EDD and I-TRAIN.

CLOSING OF CLASSESThe administration reserves the right to reduce the number of class offerings, reduce the length of courses and /or reduce the number of class meetings due to insufficient funding provided by the State of California, or insufficient numbers of students enrolled, or if the average attendance falls below the number required by the Los Angeles School District.

CERTIFICATESTo receive a CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION, a student must complete all the competencies in a program course outline. There is a $10 fee for duplicate certificates. Please see Counseling Office for more information.

DRESS CODE STANDARDSYour cooperation is needed to ensure that AFOC continues to be a safe learning environment for all students and staff. All students are expected to dress appropriately for the educational environment. We believe that appropriate student dress contributes to a productive learning environment, and we want to ensure the health and safety of our students. Additionally, preparation for your future career goals includes dressing as you would for a job.You can find the complete dress code standards with your student orientation packet.

DISABILITY SUPPORT SERVICES PROGRAM (DSSP)The Disability Support Services Office is committed to providing equal educational access for all eligible adult students enrolled at AFOC. Our goal is to offer supportive services to each student, with a verifiable disability. Services available may include: Registration & Guidance; Resource room; Sign-language interpreters; Assistive technology; Agency referrals; Assessment accommodations. HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMAThe High School Diploma is designed for students with varying educational needs. Students may obtain a high school diploma by completing 170 required credits, or through the diploma plus option. Classes are completed at the student’s own pace. Prerequisite: Reading, Math and Writing assessment prior to enrollment.

HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY TEST (HiSET)AFOC is an official HiSET test site. The HiSET exam is a test of high school equivalency and it is offered in English and in Spanish. The exam includes five subtests that you can schedule to take in any order. For additional information, contact the High School Equivalency Test Center at (213) 765-2573.

INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTIONStudents may obtain a high school diploma by completing 170 required credits and passing the state mandated proficiency test (CAHSEE). Credits previously earned at any accredited secondary or foreign school equivalent to high school level may be accepted.

ACCELERATED COLLEGE AND CAREER TRANSITION (AC²T) FORMERLY KNOWN AS (AEWC)This program focuses on youth and young adults, 16-24 years old. Guidance and support for each student will be provided through completion of individualized student plans (ISPs) that include opportunities that lead to an adult high school diploma or equivalency, higher education, apprenticeship, and other CTE training programs. FULL-TIME YOUNG ADULT PROGRAM (FTYA)This program is designed for high school drop-outs ages 16 and 17. The course of study leads to a high school diploma. CONCURRENT HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMConcurrently-enrolled high school students may receive academic high school credit by enrolling at any AFOC campus during their intersession and evenings. All high school students must obtain written authorization from their high school counselors and parents to attend AFOC. The selection of classes is made by the student’s home school counselor or Career Advisor. A placement test is required prior to enrollment.
