Scaffolding Management Services was formed in Western Australia, 2001.

Since our inception, we have steadily expanded and changed our name to SMS Group Services. The name change was intended to reflect the diverse range of services we offer and the market sectors we deliver to. That market includes process plants, greenfield, brownfield, and major construction, oil, gas, civil and commercial projects. Crane liftable, aluminium scaffold solution at Esperance Port.

KEY PROJECTS

SMS Group Services was contracted to supply access for Conveyor Refurbishment works at EPA. This project had two major prerequisites – the limitations of the structure only allowed for a scaffold dead weight of 400kg per linear metre, and the structure had to be crane liftable due to time and weather constraints.

The 100m long structure started at a height of 4m at ground level and rose to 28m. The alloy sections were lifted into place and joined in situ to create a 36m long access scaffold.

Skilled Labour, Project Supervision and Engineered Access Solutions on a Karara Mining plant.

KEY PROJECTS

Since 2011, SMS Group Services have been re-awarded on three occasions a contract to provide complete scaffolding packages for the operation phase of a plant run by Karara Mining.

In the past five years delivering scaffolding and confined space services during the Karara Mine-site operations, SMS Group Services has successfully completed all planned and unplanned shutdowns with no resource or personnel shortfall, zero major health or safety incidents.

This included the supply of:

Regular labour teams and supervision on an 8/6 roster

Shutdown labour teams of up to 140 personnel

Supply of 260-500 tonnes of scaffolding equipment

Confined space management for Major Shutdowns at Muja Power Station.

KEY PROJECTS

The use of confined space management teams onsite ensured that confined spaces were controlled for entry and use. SMS Group Services performed atmospheric monitoring and raised confined space entry permits for the works being carried out within the space.

Crews of up to 30 confined space management professionals worked around the clock to ensure that works on site were safely monitored. The entire administration function was controlled by SMS Group Services confined space management teams – from permits and entry/exit logs to gas testing records and on-site communications.

Don’t let your project be confined. SMS offers Confined Space Management services to assist clients in guaranteeing the protection of staff working in confined spaces.

Confined spaces are particularly dangerous because they are usually not designed as a normal workplace. Some of the risks to personnel from working in confined spaces include loss of consciousness, impairment, injury or death.

These hazards are not always obvious and may change from one situation to the next. All members of our confined space team are fully trained, qualified and experienced in all aspects of Confined Space Management.

Skilled Labour, Project Supervision and Engineered Access Solutions on the Tianqi Lithium Project.

KEY PROJECTS

In 2017, SMS Group Services was awarded a tier-one preferred provider contract by MSP Engineering at the billion-dollar Tianqi Lithium Project in Kwinana.

This project saw SMS providing supervision personnel and scaffolding management systems to the client, with excellent feedback being received highlighting our efficient professional approach in all aspects of the services provided.

As at its peak SMS had over 1800 tonnes of scaffolding equipment and over 100 SMS Group Services personnel on site. The site operations included the supply of a fully functioning office facility, crib facilities and scaffold yard.
