RVO is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt,

non-profit organization incorporated

in February, 2012.

We have no paid staff. All participants,

including vets and techs, donate their time.

ARVO is managed by a board of directors:

Sally Clampitt, President

Jeanne Olson, DVM, VP & Medical Director

Roy Scheller, Ph.D., Secretary-Treasurer

Christine Witzmann, Project Coordinator

Our mission is to provide veterinary

services to pets and their people

in rural Alaskan villages:

▪ Spay-neuter surgery

▪ Rabies and core vaccines

▪ Deworming

▪ Wellness exams

▪ Nail trims and basic care

▪ Humane euthanasia

▪ Education

The problem?

…too many puppies,

not enough homes …

The consequences?

1. Too many hungry strays

2. The highest rate of dog bites IN THE NATION

3. The spread of parasite infestation and disease

> to humans, especially children

> to owned pets

> to wildlife

4. Difficult and unpleasant means to control the

overpopulation of unwanted pets

5. Lack of education about responsible animal care

6. Lack of resources to help pet owners

What has ARVO done so far?

From Oct 2012 thru 2014

we have conducted 10 clinics

276 Pets rec’d spay/neuter surgery

239 Pets rec’d non-surgical services

515 Total rural pets helped

We are proud, but there is much more

to do. There are more than 200 rural

villages that need help.

Where do we go?

ARVO travels to rural villages

located off the road system that

have no veterinary care.

So far, we have conducted clinics in:

Kokhanok Nondalton

Tyonek Galena

Nome St. Mary’s

Dillingham (2) Togiak

Iliamna-Newhalen

How much do clinics cost? Costs vary widely, depending on caseload, size

of the medical team, cost of drugs, and transportation.

Usually $2500 to $5000 per clinic.

Where does our revenue come from?

Donations

Small grants

Fees paid by pet owners

Discounts from local businesses

Our preliminary plans include:

Nondalton

Other villages have inquired, and will be scheduled

if resources permit.
