Editor:

Hi, I am the publisher for all The Works magazines, I live in Abbeydale with my baby daughter, husband and mad cocker spaniel. I enjoy walking, gardening and anything that makes me laugh!

For future issues I will be looking for local topics, your opinions (good or bad!), stories & people of interest so any suggestions would be most welcomed - please email [email protected].

As a community magazine we are always trying to extend our links with local businesses and believe that our low budget advertising offers could be the answer to promoting your business during the current “credit crunch” climate.

The Relaxation Room has been run by myself, Helen Bingham,

since 2003 and is based in Upton St Leonards.

Over many years, I became disillusioned with relaxing treatments I received

and decided to be a little different.

When coming for a treatment, the main aim is "relaxation" and a

consultation to relax and offload is offered at the beginning of every sesson.

You are left to undress and get settled in and soft music, candles and

burning oils help make your treatment a peaceful and calm event. At the

end, you are covered with blankets and left to relax for some time before a

drink is brought up and you are once again left to dress and savour your

"me" time.

Stress relief is a speciality and I have received many cards/comments over

the years thanking me for helping clients through times of trouble.

I offer various forms of massage including Indian Head and back massage

with knot and tension release in a gentle way. Hopi Ear Candling is also a

very relaxing way of removing wax and clearing the head with facial and

scalp massage included. Reiki is a wonderful way of releasing built up stress

and I also offer training at my home.

As a different approach to beauty, I do organic facials based around Rose

essential oil and Lavender waxing which is very gentle and as effective as

honey wax.

The Relaxation Room is fully insured and established so why not treat

yourself or simply contact me for a price list.

Twyver Women’s Institute

Sandra welcomed us to our November meeting before we all sang Jerusalem. Jackie

Hunt announced that the WI Dance will be held on 25 February and will be in aid of

WI funds with raffle proceeds to be donated to the Get Together Club.

Sandra also informed us about a Basket Weaving class arranged for members on 15

February in the Pavilion. We were reminded about our WI meal at Painswick Golf

Club and the WI Carol Concert at Cheltenham Town Hall.

As this was our AGM meeting, Jo Collins gave the Secretary's report followed by

Sandra giving that of the President. Members were encouraged to consider joining

the committee and so bring new ideas to it. The Treasurer's report was read out in Sue

Merigold's absence and all reports were duly accepted.

Mrs Kath Chave then took the chair to invite members to choose a new President.

However, it was all agreed that Sandra should keep the role, which she has carried

out successfully, for yet another year.

With the business concluded it was then time for our speakers for the evening, who

were Ms Virginia Adsett and Ms Gill Morss with a talk entitled 'Those were the days'.

We were all fascinated and entranced by the huge array of items shown to us. These

ranged from Coronation memorabilia to children's clothes and toys as well as

teenagers' and adults' fashions of the 1950's. Quite a few of us admitted to

remembering many of those items, whilst others maintained they were too young!

The evening closed with refreshments and the raffle prizes were drawn and the

birthday gifts presented.

Twyver WI meets at 7.30pm in Upton Village Hall on the 2nd Monday

of each month. Please come and join us on 9th January for a talk by

Nick Rowles on 'The History of Upton St Leonards' as well as our New

Year Bring and Buy sale.

At Last! A NEW FORM OF HEATING FROM GERMANY

Simple to install, Powerful, and no more servicing - EVER!

In Germany and Austria it can get as low as -20, even -30ºC and a single snowfall can be as

much as 3ft or more overnight. To deal with this severe cold they need powerful heating able to

cope with sub zero temperatures and sudden climate change. They need excellent control and

above all - low running costs without the need for constant servicing and replacement parts.

The solution, incredibly... is electric! This incredible

heating could be the answer to help beat ever increasing

energy costs and amazingly, it is not gas or oil, or solid

fuel - but clean electric! All you need is standard supply

and NO special tariff like economy 7.

All over Europe more people are choosing to heat their

homes and offices with this very special form of electric

heating in preference to oil gas or E7. In our area, more and more of our customers are making

that same decision and when you see this incredible heating for yourself you could be next! The

heating looks just like conventional radiators, but STOP! it is very different! Put simply, that

clunky central heating boiler needing constant servicing and replacement parts isn’t the only

choice anymore!

Now you can heat your homes, offices, extensions or conservatories with these incredible

heaters providing individual control over every room without the need for a central control or

wasted boiler space. This incredible German heating simply plugs in! Job Done! You can do

just one room or the whole house! This heating, whilst quite NEW in the UK has been

mainstream for a very long time in Germany and Austria. Sunflow Ltd. offer a complete solution which can include disposing of your old central heating

system, even oil tanks! Discover for yourself this incredible German heating.

DAVE’S TOP TIPS

Using Wall plugs

Many types of wall plugs exist and new designs are being brought out all of the time. Make sure that you use the correct drill and the correct screw or else the fixing will not work. Wall plugs should not be used in hollow plasterboard walls as other fixings are available for this.

Mark the length of the plug on the drill using some tape. If you are drilling through a wall that has old plaster that is likely to flake then it is best of you drill a little deeper and ensure that the plug is pushed through the plaster and into the masonry behind, so that the plaster does not crack when the screw is tightened.

Before drilling a hole into a wall you must ensure that no services such as pipes or cables are running where you intend to drill. When drilling through plaster into masonry it is best if you do not use hammer action until you hit the masonry. If you try to drill the plaster using hammer action you could damage the plaster and could drill the hole in the wrong place.

When you reach the desired depth you can remove the drill from the hole. Insert the correct size wall plug and tap it home with a hammer. Remember if the plaster is likely to flake tap the plug further into the brickwork so as to prevent flaking when the plug expands. Finally insert the correct size screw and tighten up.

Regards,

Dave Stevens.

If in doubt call me (see main advert for number) and I will do the investigating for you.
