Follow the same procedure to create a distance buffer from any line object on themap. This can be a high or low-pressure pipeline graphic or a line drawing created bythe user.

To delete distance markers, click the Remove Markers link.

There are several drawing tools available in AbaData used to create shapes andtext on the map screen. When using the drawing tools, you can customize the appear-ance of lines, polygons or text each time they are created, or you can determine defaultappearances for items by clicking the Defaults link, which will open the window picturedbelow.

Once a drawing element is created on the map screen, use the Toggle Layer link totemporarily remove or add the drawing layer to the screen. This tool will not permanentlydelete drawing items.

The methods used to create lines or polygons on the map screen are similar. First, click the Draw Line or Draw Polygon Link and choose the desired colour and style. Thenclick on the map screen at the location you’d like to start drawing. Then, click at eachpoint you’d like the line to change direction, or for each corner of the polygon. Finally,double-click at the end point.

If you’re creating a polygon or circle, you’ll have the option to include a label indicat-ing the area covered by the shape. You can also create a custom label if desired. Theimage on the following page contains an example of a polygon, line, user road label andtext added to the map screen.

To add text to the map, click the Add Text link, type the text into the Text field andchoose the desired size, colour and style. Then, click the point on the map screen you’dlike the text to start, and again to indicate the direction of the text path.

The Add Road Label tool allows you to create labels for undefined roads in Aba-Data. To do this, you must first select the User Road Labels layer for display in the cul-ture options screen. Then click the Add Road Label link, enter the desired text, and clickon the map screen to place the label.

Once created, drawing elements can be edited, moved or deleted. To do so, first se-lect the object on the map screen with the arrow-shaped Select Map Object tool. To se-lect multiple objects, hold the shift key and select each one individually, or create awindow around all the objects you’d like to select. Then, click on either the Edit, Move orRemove links to alter or delete the object.

Approximate work areas are pre-defined drawing elements consisting of a box or cir-cle and a label with an arrow. An example is below. To create an approximate work area, click on the Box or Circle link, create the desired shape, click on the Label link and finallyclick within the shape and the location you’d like to place the text.

Most printing problems in AbaData are caused by search toolbars or other browser add-ons that conflict with the AutoDesk MapGuide Viewer, such as the Yahoo, Google and Win-dows Live toolbars in the image below. If you have any search toolbars installed, they willappear when you start Internet Explorer.

In some cases, AbaData users with search toolbars installed have experienced no prob-lems. However, search toolbars can cause a variety of issues related to printing, copying themap image and repeated browser crashing. Most commonly, users are unable to access theprint options for their local printer after clicking the Print Map icon in the AbaData toolbar.

If you are experiencing any difficulties with AbaData and have a search toolbar installed,we recommend first removing the toolbar to eliminate it as a possible cause.

There are several ways to disable installed search toolbars. You can simply right-clickon empty space above the search toolbar in the browser to access the context menu in theimage below, then un-check the search toolbar to disable it.

To uninstall the toolbar from your computer, access the Start menu, then the ControlPanel as in the image on the following page. If you are using Windows XP, double-click theAdd or Remove Programs icon. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, double-clickthe Programs and Features icon. You’ll see a list of the programs installed on your computer.

Select the toolbar you wish to remove, then select either Remove or Uninstall, depend-ing on the version of Windows you’re using.
