Dear Fratres and Friends:The Sigma Alpha Mu Foundation, the charitable and educational wing of our Fraternity, was chartered in 1944. In 1979, in preparation for the celebration of the Fraternity’s seventy-fifth anniversary, Bill Schwartz and Larry Schaffer undertook a concerted effort to increase the Foundation’s endowment in order to allow the Foundation to award more scholarships. The success of that project and others that followed, quite evident from the donations from many fratres over the past 34 years, allowed the Foundation to award a total of $192,000 in scholar-ships this past academic year. This amount was an increase of almost $20,000 from the previ-ous year (which was then an all-time high). These awards included 65 Sid Guller Young Schol-ars and 143 endowed scholarships, aiding fratres from 44 chapters. Noteworthy is that nine of these scholarships, totaling $10,000, were for the daughters of fratres and other students, including USY (United Synagogue Youth) and NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth).

On a per chapter basis, our fraternity awards more scholarship dollars than any other frater-nity, a fact in which I take great pride. It is truly the ultimate example of our fraternity’s ideals in action.

In their letters, ∑AM Foundation scholarship recipients have shared meaningful experiences your gifts have supported. One frater -- a business and accounting major -- wrote about his several activities on- and off-campus, helping to create stronger programs benefiting youth in his area. Another, who is majoring in cognitive psychology, shared stories about the im-portance of Jewish education as a guiding force in his life. A third wrote, “I believe that it is a fantastic thing that you have generously donated your hard-earned money to financially aid students, such as me, ...so that I can focus on my academics and one day have the opportunity to endow a scholarship of my own.”

Your continued gifts to the ∑AM Foundation for scholarships and leadership education help enrich the academic and community experiences of our fratres, “now and for all time.”

Thank you for all you do and will do!

Fraternally & Sincerely,

Jerry MillerDirector, Sigma Alpha Mu Foundation and Chair, Sigma Alpha Mu Foundation Scholarship CommitteeChapter and Faculty Advisor, Mu Psi Chapter of Sigma Alpha MuPresident, 206 Mu Psi CorpProfessor Emeritus, Economics, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio

Cre-ated to honor past chapter leaders Andrew J. Cornick and Ross T. Simkins, the Cornick-Simkins Scholarship is for a member of the Miami Univ Pi Kappa Alpha chapter who epitomizes the true-Pike commitment to scholar, leader, athlete and gentleman.

This scholarship joins the Jerry Miller Scholarship for the Mu Psi/Miami Univ chapter of ΣAM, awarded to Darren Shuster in 2013, which Fra Miller also endowed. We are proud of the good relations between the two fraternities and a sharing of fraternal values and commitment to education.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you for the Young Scholars award that Iam receiving for my strong academic performance this past semester. I am thankful and deeply appreciative for being accepted for this honor. I am in the Beta Epsilon chapter at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and my participation in the fraternity is very rewarding to me. I dedicate a lot of my time to helping out the fraternity, the community, and volunteering. It is certainly chal-lenging to balance all your priorities, but I need to recognize and thank my brothers for helping me do so well academically this past semester. I hope one day I will be able to assist brothers within Sigma Alpha Mu and make a significant difference in their lives just as you have done for me. Thank you again for your generosity and support.

I would like to greatly thank the scholarship committee for selecting me to be a recipient of the David S. Rice Scholarship. It truly is an honor. As a member of the Rho Chapter of Sigma Alpha Mu, I made it a personal goal to gain leadership roles. I was heavily involved in the Illini Summer Opportunity Organiza-tion. With ISOO we raise money for underprivileged children in the Champaign-Urbana communities to send them to summer camp. My involvement and desire to participate led to me being appointed philanthropy chair for our Rho Chapter, a title that I am extremely excited about for the next semester. I would like to thank you once again and extend my utmost gratitude.

I want you to know that my education and the fraternity are extremely important to me. I believe that it is a fantastic thing that you have generously donated your hard earned money to financially aid students, such as me, in a time of need so that I can focus on my academics and one day have the opportunity to endow a scholarship of my own. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for this award, my ap-preciation is immense. Fast and firm, brother. Gamma Kappa/Texas A&M Scholarship Recipient
