AUB USAID-USP Ahmad Wehbe assisted therelief efforts of DPNA Lebanon in sealingwindows and installing temporary maindoors for families who got affected by theblast of last week.

Many houses and buildings are beyond repair.Seeing torn doors and broken windows is heartbreaking. Whatever we have done to help is notenough, and it is only temporary. People cannotleave their houses and they don’t have themoney to repair anything. I really hope thissituation will change as soon as possible,” saidAhmad.

Ahmad Wehbe’s effort might be a small act oflanding a helping hand but has definitely a bigimpact. Forces of AUB USAID-USP students ishelping people stay in their homes."

Putting her heart, energy, and time to servethose who got affected by the blast ofTuesday, AUB USAID-USP Jihane Charaf ElDine stepped into the kitchen of SawaMninjah to participate in a food donationdrive organized in Tripoli to support thecitizens of Beirut who are in dire need.

“I stepped into Sawa’s kitchen on the 6th ofAugust. We prepared over 360 meals, packedthem, and then we all drove to Beirut todistribute them”, says Jihane, “We will not giveup on anyone. Those are our people and we willstand by them. I have hope that our beautifulcapital Beirut will rise again. We will make ithappen."Charaf El Dine believes that any support is givingthe absolute minimum resources necessary tosurvive these challenging times. USAID-USPstudents will remain present on the groundrelentless in their efforts to clean up their cityand help out the people of Beirut..

With brooms and shovels, AUB USAID USPstudents Hussam Al Basha, Sara El Hajj,Maria Naser El Khoury, and MelhemRahme took the streets of the CapitalBeirut to clean up the debris caused by thethird largest explosion in history..

Without calling for volunteers, the four studentsteamed up and decided to join Caritas Lebanon,a non-governmental organization which servethe poor communities and to promote charityand justice. The team scooped up shattereddrywalls, and swept glass from Mar Michaelstreet and Armenia street."I know that Beirut will rise again. It shall riseand we are present on the ground today andeveryday of this week to make this happenthough we have a heartbreak the size of10,452km2," says Maria.Reflecting the true spirit of Beirut, AUB USAID-USP students continue to assist those in needfor help throughout the upcoming week.

AUB USAID-USP Student Omar Kammouniwas quick to land a helping hand to the armyof volunteers who came up with aspontaneous campaign to salvage and cleanup homes’ wreckage caused by the blast ofTuesday, August 4, 2020.

“I had mixed feelings throughout the entireactivity process. Sadness and happiness werehitting my cores. I felt sadness, pain, and agonyseeing the aftermath of the explosion and everytime I looked around me I was haunted by thesefeelings. We’ve lost many dear people to all of us.At the same time, I was happy to be therehelping my community stand up again andcooperate with a group of volunteers that I havenot met before,” says Kammouni.AUB USAID-USP students like Omar did notthink twice before deciding to go on-ground tohelp. Their spontaneous actions areoverwhelming and brings back the hope of abetter tomorrow.
