south-eastern part of Transylvania. It was built by the German community of the city, between 1383 and 1385 and stands as the main Gothic style monument in the country, as well as being the largest and one of the most important
places of worship in the region. It was known as the Church of Saint Mary but the structure was partially destroyed by a fire in 1689. Afterwards it became known as the Black Church.

Hunedoara
• The city includes the most important Gothic-style secular building in Transylvania: the Hunyad Castle.
The impressive size and architectural beauty sets it among the most impressive monuments of medieval art. The building lies on a rock around which flows the river Zlasti. It has an impressive draw bridge, countless towers, a number of interior courts and two large halls.
