A SPRING GROVE WEDDING

Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic trip into Wye this week. As part of their ongoing studies into understanding the world around them, the children investigated the village, as well visiting St Gregory & St Martin’s Church (for a very special wedding!) and the park (for the after party!). Thank you to Ravi Holy for the fantastic teaching.

IN TRAINING

Participating Prep 5 and 6 children ramped up their training this

week on the Wye Downs, as they get ready for Sunday's National

Prep Schools' Cross-Country Championships at Malvern College.

Not to be outdone, our swimmers have also been training ex-

tremely hard in preparation of Saturday’s Kent Primary Schools’

Swimming event at Medway Park.

The very best of luck to all our pupils competing this weekend.

IGNITING A PASSION TO LEARN

At Forest School, this week, the children learned how to tell North using vegetation, moss and the sun, they also completed a navigation exercise using compasses, and were shown how to start a fire using a battery, while also building their own 'upside-down' fires. It has been quite a week in Forest School.

LET’S GROW A WOODLAND?

We received 30 trees, this week, from the Woodland Trust to plant around the grounds. The saplings will soon be planted as part of the landscaping to integrate our new buildings. They may not look too impressive at the moment, but they've certainly found ‘a great place to grow!’

Cherrie amazed us all with her outstanding light-up So-lar System display. Her work is proudly displayed in the entrance hall. Great work Cherrie!

FLUTES, FLUTES & MORE FLUTES

It was fantastic to welcome Trevor Wye and his Flute Studio to School. The fun assembly, involving stories, musical demonstra-tions and ’show & tell’ proved to be extremely enlightening to eve-ryone in attendance. The assembly also witnessed Emmeline per-form a beautiful solo on the flute. My sincere thanks to Trevor Wye and his Flute Studio, and a huge congratulations to Emmeline on a magnificent performance.

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE GOOD

Prep 6 led us all through a thoroughly enter-

taining and informative family assembly. Their

dramatisation of ‘What it takes to be good’,

set in a Spring Grove context (including a fan-

tastic parody of Mrs Rafferty), saw the audi-

ence in raptures.

Led by Toby, a fictional character, the show

perfectly demonstrated all that makes Spring

Grove special – how individual character, man-

ners, helping others, thoughtfulness, friends

and family are what matter most, and will help

you to lead a happy life.

Fantastic work Prep 6!

TEDDIES THIS WEEK

In Teddies we have been feeding the birds in our garden. The

children threaded Cheerios onto pipe cleaners and filled the

bird feeder with seed.

Quiz Night

This year’s Quiz Night will take place on St Patrick’s Day, Friday 17th March – 7.30 pm arrival for 8pm start. Join us for this fun and lighthearted quiz and enjoy an entertaining evening, some not-too-taxing questions and a relaxing drink with friends. Bring your family and friends, organise a ladies or gents table or just buy a ticket and crash a table! All welcome! Tickets (available from Mrs. Read) are priced at £10.00 with a fish & chip supper included in the ticket price. Drinks will also be available to purchase on the evening. For catering purposes please order your tickets or table from Mrs Read by Tuesday 14th March.

The Easter Bunny!

The Easter Bunny will make his annual visit to Spring

Grove on Wednesday 29th March for children in Re-

ception through to Prep 6. A separate Teddies and

Nursery Easter egg hunt will take also place - please

contact Nursery for date and time.

Nursery /Teddies Coffee Morning 14th March, Sunley Hall

Please join us for this fundraising coffee morning on the 14th of March (which will run from just after drop-off until 10am). All Nursery and Teddies parents are warmly invited to come and have a free coffee! As well as a cake sale and a Teddies/ Nursery uniform sale, there will also be a book & toy sale. Our prep six pupils will be on hand to keep little ones entertained in order to give parents a chance to chat so please do feel free to come along even if your child does not attend on that day. This is also the perfect opportunity for any prospec-tive SG parents to find our more about our lovely Ted-dies and Nursery environment so please feel free to bring your friends and neighbours. It's time for a spring clean! You can now donate cur-

tains and bedding (excludes duvets and pillows but

duvet covers will be accepted). These donations are

limited to 1 per bag but you can donate more than

one bag. Put it in your diary for Tuesday 28th

March, 9am in Sunley Hall.

For added convenience, bags can be dropped off on the stage in the hall after pick-up on Monday 27th.

‘Running Wild’ at The Marlowe

The Marlowe will be showing the family perfor-mance ‘Running Wild’ to find out more about the show please click here The PTA has secured 60 tickets at the family dis-count rate of £17.57 per seat in stall rows Q & R on 31st May for the matinee at 2pm. Monies can be dropped off in a sealed envelope through Mrs Read or through bank transfer no later than 15th March. Unfortunately no refunds can be given after that date.

SG Open Day – donations wanted

All donations of baked goods for the open morning would be greatly appreciated!

If you can donate some home baking but won’t be attending the opening morning, please drop off all goods on the afternoon of Friday 10th March. For those attending the event, all goods can be brought in first thing on Saturday morning. Please ensure that all containers are clearly labeled.

SPRING GROVE SCHOOL: SPORT

7s Tournament at Sutton Valence Match Reporter, Sebastian Fairchild On Friday, 3rd March, SG played at the Sutton Valence 7s tournament. In our first game we played King’s Rochester and won 4-1. In our second game we played St Michael’s and lost 2-5. In our third game we played Holmewood House and lost 0-4. I n our fourth game we played Sevenoaks and won 6-0 and in our last game we played Solefield and won 4-0. In total we scored 16 tries and had 9 scored against us so we will say that overall…we won! Everybody played very well and contributed in their own way to the success on the day.

U11 Netball v St Faith’s A Team Match Reporter, Rosa Bowden The A team played netball against St Faith’s away. We won the toss and chose to first pushback. In the first quarter we did very well; Mia and I scored 3 goals. In the next quarter, Mia and I scored another 2 goals. It was half time and Mrs Brogan-Jones gave us an encouraging team talk. In the second quarter we scored again and again. Man of the match was Lottie. A massive thank you to Mrs Brogan-Jones and Mrs Langford for taking us. The score was 7-2 to SG. Well done SG. B Team Match Reporter, Hasini Kapayala On Wednesday, the U11 B Team played the St Faith’s team away. We won the toss and the game began. We had some great strong passes and intercepting and Madeleine scored a sneaky goal. It was then the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, St Faith’s woke up a bit and started doing some finer passes but we played strong and Madeleine scored another cheeky goal. We tried to score another goal but the ball rolled under a car and we had a struggle to get it out. Luckily St Faith’s managed to get the ball out. It was then half time. We had an exceedingly good talk with Mrs Langford and we scored 2 more goals. St Faith’s were getting more aggressive with the ball especially the goalkeeper but they still didn’t manage to get a goal. In the last quarter we didn’t score any goals. The final score was 4:0 to Spring Grove. We had a wonderful match tea. Thank you to Mrs Brogan-Jones for driving us and Mrs Langford for being an excellent coach. The la-dy of the match was Madeleine. Well played SG.

U11 Rugby v Dover College Match Reporter, George Goodman The under 11s played Dover college at how. We got off to a fantastic start and Cameron and Finn both scored 1 try before half time. Just before half time, Dover scored two sneaky tries. Mr Smith gave us an encouraging team talk. In the second half, Harry did a fantastic tackle. Finn scored a speedy try and Cameron scored another speedy try. At the blow of the whis-tle the match finished. The score was 6-2, well done SG. Thank you Mr Smith for coaching us.

U9 Rugby v Dover College B Team Match Reporter, Barney Smith On Wednesday, Dover College took on the mighty Spring Grove Under 9 team. Josh won the toss and SG kicked off. Unfor-tunately, poor team passing and knocking on meant Dover College took the lead. By half time the score was 7-3 to Dover College. Mr Curnow gave us an encouraging team talk with a focus on not diving on the try line. A better second half saw SG scoring more tries, however, the final score was Dover 12 and SG 9. Try scorers were Charlie 3, William 2, Barney, Josh, Dennis and Hector all with 1 try. Thank you to Mrs Rawlins for the match tea and to Mr Curnow for his coaching. Man of the match was Charlie for his great passing.

PARKING — UPDATE

With the on site development of two new classrooms, new chang-ing rooms and a new library currently taking place, we acknowledge that at times parking can be difficult. We have spo-ken to the contractors and asked for them to park within their secure compound and we are hopeful that this will help to ease congestion. Please be reminded that, for the safety of our pupils, parking out-side Teddies is reserved for Nursery and Teddies parents only.

SG MENSA CHALLENGE Last week’s Teaser: The value of the fourth column was 34.

This week: A factory recycles plates for use in its canteen. Nine used plates are needed to make each new plate. From 601 used plates , how many plates can pos-sibly be made in total.

Character I was delighted to present to Barney Smith this morning a photograph recording his part in a brilliant rugby experience at Allianz Park (home of Saracens RFC) in which he and his team from Folkestone played three games in front of a large appreciative crowd. The tournament’s emphasis was based on encouraging the right attitude to playing rather than simply winning. The festival, enti-tled Saracens Core Values celebrated honesty, work rate, discipline and humility and should therefore be loudly applauded for aiming to develop CHARACTER—a key lesson in this week’s Prep 6 assembly.

After children have made their own tea. Which they enjoy doing and socialising around the tea table (time permitting) we continue with our planned activity for that day. All children are made very welcome. It would

be most helpful to us if children could be booked in at least the day before, so we have an idea on numbers. Particularly on the days a specific activity is listed please. This enables sufficient materials/

ingredients to be available.

It is a fun, relaxed atmosphere at the end of a school day. 4.30 -6pm. Please come along and join us.
