Junior Angus members from 32 states competed for the title of Champion
Angus Showman at the 41st National JuniorAngus Showmanship Contest, July 6-7, atthe 2007 National Junior Angus Show(NJAS) in Tulsa, Okla. The 54competitors qualified by earning theright within their respective state. Thenational contest is sponsored by theAmerican Angus Auxiliary and Andis®clippers.
Allison Bond, Inola, Okla., won firstplace after being named to the top 15juniors to compete in the final round.She received the esteemed Dean HurlbutAward, which includes a silver Reverebowl, as well as a monetary awardprovided by the Hamilton JamesMemorial Fund.
Megan Fink, Randolph, Kan., earnedsecond-place honors. Katie Lents, Eton,Ga., claimed third place; and KirbeSchnoor, Chowchilla, Calif., won fourth.Samantha Harl, Hastings, Neb., roundedout the top five, who each received amonetary award as well as a silver Reverebowl provided by the Auxiliary.
Exhibitors show animals chosen by
random selection, and their performance isevaluated by a panel of top showmen. Theyare judged on skill, ability to followinstructions, use of equipment, courtesy,
sportsmanship and general appearance.After four preliminary rounds, 15 finalistsare chosen and receive clippers provided byAndis.
Evaluating the contestants were judgesTammy Wallace, Stotts City, Mo.; RyanCotton, Clarkesville, Ga.; and CodySankey, Lansing, Mich.
Other finalists in the top 15 includeAshlyn Carter, Upland, Ind.; WaltStinson, Talbott, Tenn.; Jordan Davis,Foss, Okla.; Julie Thelen, Saline, Mich.;Ty Goossen, Hillsboro, Kan.; SethSumrall, Monticello, Miss.; Katie Jensen,North English, Iowa; Trey Davis,Doerun, Ga.; Jordan Hunter, Fair Grove,Mo.; and Katrina Womack, Telephone,Texas.
Juniors who received honorablemention include Lauren Schroeder,Clarence, Iowa; Garrett Johnston,Staunton, Va.; Haley Rieff, Bentonville,Ark.; Zach Kinne, Eagleville, Mo.; KaraWilson, Orleans, Ind.; Sarah Butler,Bliss, Idaho; and Allison Burns,Troutdale, Ore.
