Don Julian Barrio Barrio.
Con amor y mis oraciones, P. Thomas Paul K. Naval

My Dearest Parish Family,
God be with us always.
Mission Accomplished: One of the reasons of the Camino I did last September was to have a meeting with the Dean of the Cathedral Basilica Don Segundo Lopez and an audience with the Archbishop of Santiago de Compostela Don Julian Barrio Barrio. Our Parish Staff members Lyanamar and Refugio has been successful in setting this up inspite being challenged with the time difference. Both meetings were confirmed before I left and I brought with me a Letter from our Parish humbly requesting for a relic of St. James. I met with Don Lopez on the 14th of September and with His Excellency Don Julian on the 24th.
On both instances, I was told that the tomb has not been opened for centuries. In fact, Arch. Don Julian explained to me that on November 1, 1884 Pope Leo the Great issued a Papal Bull recognizing the authenticity of the tomb of St. James the Great. Part of the Bull is prohibiting anyone to open the tomb – thus since that time no “first class relic” has ever been given to any Church. Alas, we are much more than a century late in requesting for our first class relic.
However, we have been given a Silver Medal that has touched the Tomb of St. James – Arch Don Julian said that this is the relic they entrust to all the Parishes, Churches, Institutions and Confraternities that make a request for a relic. He knows what he is talking about because he has been the Archbishop of Santiago for the past 25 years
and counting. I am working having the video played at the end of Masses if you are interested to watch the audience with His Excellency. He also made sure that there is a Certificate that attests to the authenticity of the medal. One important thing He mentioned was that this is the first time in his episcopacy that he receive a letter from a church whose name is exactly like that of the Cathedral-Basilica: “Santiago de Compostela.” He told me that he will keep our letter in the special archives of the Shrine.
I expressed to him an open invitation to make sure to come and visit us if he ever crosses the Atlantic. As expected he graciously accepted and returned the favor by inviting us to join them in the Jubilee Year of Santiago de Compostela in the whole year of 2021. I am thinking of organizing a pilgrimage from our parish to celebrate that year and pass through the Holy Door of the Cathedral-Basilica of Santiago de Compostela.
Let us thank the Lord for the gift of this Relic and for the recognition that we have the unique heritage of being the namesake of a great Christian-Catholic Pilgrimage Shrine of Santiago de Compostela. God bless and take care.
Here are the pictures of my meeting and audience with Don Segundo Lopez and Arch. Don Julian Barrio Barrio.
Love and prayers, Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Last Wednesday we had an Introduction to the Bible Study and an overview of the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament). You are invited to participate in the study of the first book of Scripture...Genesis. Let
us talk about the way in which the ancient people expressed their beliefs. People were not as concerned with recording the precise
details of an event as they were in probing its meaning. To that end they told stories. (p. 6, Collegeville Commentary) like story telling?
Come hear the stories that reveal the presence of God amongst Jesus’ ancestors and our ancient ancestors of Faith.

Correction and apology—At the end of the video clip prepared for the “Santiago Culture Fest 2018” about the basic Vietnamese words the flag of the present Vietnam was erroneously shown. This showing resulting from an honest mistake had caused pain in the heart and mind of the Vietnamese parishioners who viewed this clip. As the author of the clip I take full responsibility for this production error and would like to express my deepest and most sincere apology to all of the parishioners who were offended by this unintentional mistake. Please forgive me for this unfortunate event.
