JMJ September 1, 2019

My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. I write this letter on the Feast of the Queenship of Mama Mary. This is seven days after the Solemnity of the Assumption. Traditionally, as well as in Sacred Scripture, the number 7 is considered significant. As I watch the planes go by and fly in an out of the airport here in Incheon, South Korea – I thought about the trip that the missionary from Ghana Msgr. Richard Affrim must have taken to make an appeal for the needs of the Diocese of Ho where he is serving. I do hope that we will really take a moment to find in our hearts the generosity to support their endeavors and projects. You must have observed how obvious the progress of the Construction of the Covered Patio. It took a while to lay the ground work so that what comes up will truly be supported and built on a strong foundation. This should also make us reflect on how strong is the foundation on which we build our faith and relationship with God. Our Loving Father has proven His consistency in reaching out to us and His willingness to work with us so that indeed we will be more and more intimately connected to Him. This should allow us to follow and obey His will with conviction and determination. Thank you for your generosity in responding to the appeal of Sr. Nicetas for the orphanages in the Philippines, the Augustinian Sisters – her community is administering and the children under their care. It is indeed an opportunity to be there for those who are in dire need of love. I am also very grateful for your patience when our sound system went out because of a damaged unit. Let us pray that this will be resolved sooner than

later. I am sure you are aware of the many challenges we are still facing in terms of addressing the repair and maintenance of our aging facilities. I thank you in advance for your patience, cooperation and support. I hope the message of the Sunday Gospel will help us pray and reflect on how we can work together. We are asked not seek places of honor but we are encouraged to humbly serve and work for the Kingdom of God. Let us remember to seek the things that are above. God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

PASTORAL SERVICES APPEAL (PSA) 2019

“We Are One, Living the Gospel Message” Our Parish goal for the 2019 Pastoral Services Appeal is for at least 600 of families to pledge $133,000 to support Faith Formation, Outreach Ministries, Clergy Formation and Support and parish and diocesan advancement. Gifts made over that amount will go toward church needs and maintenance of our own parish. The PSA provides a convenient way for all of us, no matter what our time limitations, to take an active role in the mission of the church. As a guide to a proportionate gift, please consider pledging a percent of your income, or the pay for one or two hours work each month for ten months. You can submit your PSA Pledge Envelope during Masses this weekend or next, or return them to the parish office.

MISSION CO-OP SPECIAL COLLECTION August 31st and September 1st

The Missionary Cooperative Plan is the main source of income for many missionary groups/projects worldwide. Each summer, a missionary group is assigned to Parishes around the Diocese of Orange to do the appeal at all Masses. A second collection will take place on today to help the Diocese of Ho located in the eastern corner of Ghana. Msgr. Richard Affrim from the

Diocese of Ho, will be here to give a brief presentation on their needs. The collection is not just donations; it is a way for Catholics to participate in the mission ministry we are called to. Thank you for your continuous generosity.

Bulletin/Announcements Submissions

Do you need to announce your ministry or activities in our Church bulletin?

Articles must be submitted NO LATER than Wednesday, 12:00pm 11 (eleven) days in advance of the issue in which you would like it to appear.

Are you ready? All you Rookies and Veterans be prepared …..KICKOFF FOR BIBLE STUDY IS SEPT. 25TH.

The “game plan” is to engage the New Testament for a deeper understanding of the Gospel according to Matthew. It is one of the Synoptic Gospels from the Greek meaning to “view together.” The reading guide of the Catholic Study Bible says it would be a mistake to consider Mt. Mk. and Lk. as carbon copies of each other. Each has its own unique style and theological perspective. (p.386) What do you mean, you ask? Well, our first “practice” will be acquainting ourselves with the particulars and an overview of the Old and New Testament.

All are welcome to join the team!! Wednesdays 9:00 AM or 7:00 PM in the parish hall

For further information, call Nancy, 766-8126 or Barb, 768-1170.

Mass with Anointing of the Sick Mass with Anointing of the Sick is celebrated on the second Saturday of every month (September 14th) during the 8am Mass. Come and experience the power of faith and the healing presence of God.
