API WarehouseCHOSEN ABOVE ALL OTHER SUPPLIERS
“The only deal we can’t beat is AAP and their PVA deal when a pharmacy uses the API warehouse.”~ competitor
5VO1CE Q2 2017
In a recent survey of over 300 independent pharmacies, AAP’s Member warehouse API was chosen as the best net pricing for generic pharmaceuticals over all other suppliers.
As one can clearly see, it wasn’t even close. Interestingly enough, this same group admits to purchasing from multiple suppliers. Is chasing a low invoice on individual generic items really the best strategy and use of pharmacy resources? Or should one examine the impact of one’s entire weighted portfolio against a potential suitor supplier? The latter approach should give the best chance of reliable profitability and return on investment when factors such as payroll, invoice processing and workflow are considered. For each additional supplier utilized, add a sliding scale of 1 to 2.6% to the price of the selected generic to compensate for additional expenses incurred in the pursuit of a lower one-off invoice price.
API reviews competitive invoices each day and finds that in almost every case, API is NET lower on like generics. In those few cases where API is beaten, the merchandise is typically short dated or a special one-time buy of overstock from a manufacturer. Day in and day out, there is no better way to profit than buying from yourself!
API when used in combination with the AAP’s Prime Vendor Agreement (PVA) is the lowest overall portfolio pricing in the industry. Don’t believe us, believe our toughest competitor, who recently stated, “The only deal we can’t beat is AAP and their PVA deal when a pharmacy uses the API warehouse.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
Using a Scan & Toss® ordering solution from API makes it easy to integrate API and primary vendor purchases. Contact your AAP Territory Manager today for an evaluation of current purchasing habits and allow AAP to help realize your pharmacy’s full profit potential.

As an AAP member, you have access to exclusive discounts with nearly 50 vendors via the AAP Preferred Partner Program. From dollar merchandise to adherence technology, the vast array of partnerships is designed to support your operations and profitability. Each partner is thoroughly scrutinized to ensure they meet AAP’s rigorous standards and provide an exceptionally-priced or innovative solution that meets your needs. AAP understands that you trust AAP’s endorsement and recommendations, which is why only about 10% of the vendors that express interest in the Preferred Partners program make the cut. AAP only partners with reputable organizations that provide you with the same stellar service and support you’ve come to expect from AAP itself. Furthermore, each partnership is reviewed annually to ensure the relationship continues to bring value to AAP members.
Whenever possible, AAP has negotiated aggressive up-front discounts (as opposed to after-purchase rebates) to improve your cash flow. However, in some cases, the Preferred Partner also provides for a rebate, which is collected by AAP and distributed to AAP members based on participation. That’s why it’s essential to identify your pharmacy as an AAP Member each time you order to ensure you receive AAP benefits and discounts.
Certainly, from a practical standpoint, it makes sense to consider utilizing Preferred Partners whenever possible – why turn down an opportunity to receive a discount? Plus, you avoid the hassle and time-consuming process of having to research potential partners. AAP has already done that work for you. But, there’s another more global reason to use Preferred Partners that benefits the entire cooperative.
The notion of a cooperative, or working together towards a common goal, extends to AAP Preferred Partnerships. Just as AAP’s ability to negotiate a financially beneficial agreement with its wholesaler partner increases as AAP’s size increases, so does AAP’s ability to negotiate with its Preferred Partners. By demonstrating to the vendors that AAP, as a group, brings them additional revenue, partners are more willing to provide even deeper discounts. Some agreements include tiered pricing that gradually gets more aggressive when AAP’s participation across the entire cooperative increases. As you can see, together we are stronger.
If you haven’t reviewed the list of Preferred Partnerships, it’s accessible on the AAP website, www.rxaap.com. There are three categories that nearly every pharmacy can benefit from, regardless of pharmacy size, patient mix, or prescription count.
1. Prescription Packaging: AAP has relationships with Berry Global and
Tri State Distribution. Both offer competitive pricing on vials, ovals and other packaging, including custom imprinted and reversible caps.
2. Returns/Reverse Distribution: No matter how well you manage your inventory, odds are you’ll need to return expired pharmaceuticals at some point. AAP offers three partnerships: Inmar, Pharma Logistics, and Return Solutions. Each partner provides an aggressive rate and program structure designed to meet your needs, including quick cash, mail-in and on-site services.
3. Digital Marketing: If you’re like most pharmacy owners, your expertise likely lies outside digital marketing, websites and apps. Fortunately, you don’t have to go it alone. AAP has several outstanding Preferred Partners with turnkey solutions, including health-related content, mobile-responsive websites and mobile apps to ensure your pharmacy has the digital tools to increase traffic, patient engagement and profits.
Some of our most successful Preferred Partnerships have started with a suggestion from an AAP member, so don’t be shy. If you come across a vendor that you think other AAP members might benefit from or have a need within your pharmacy that is unmet, contact Tracie Heyrman, Vice-President of Preferred Partners, at [email protected].
