FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH

Welcome in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Bibles (blue cover) and hymnbooks (brown cover) are provided for your use.

A nursery is available in the lower hall for infants and toddlers.

Washrooms are also located in the lower hall.

If you wish to have a cushion or hard of hearing headset, please speak to one of the ushers who will be happy to obtain these items for you.

We invite you to complete one of the blue Visitor Cards in the pew rack and place it in the offering plate toward the end of the worship service. This will help us get to know you better!

Please silence cell phones and other electronics. Speak softly, move slowly and allow each one present to listen for God’s voice.

Many people have allergies to fragrances and perfumes, so we try to keep our church a scent-free zone in consideration of the health and wellbeing of others! Thank you!

Should you wish to have someone pray with or for you, today’s Deacon-on-Duty will be pleased to meet with you following the worship service. Please come to the front, west side pew.

Perhaps this prayer may help you begin your preparation today: “Eternal and Holy God, in ancient times You called prophets like Zechariah, to proclaim Your Word. Grant that We may humbly listen

for Your Word this morning, and give You praise for Your great

unfolding plan and design to restore, renew and heal Your wounded world. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

THE WORD OF GOD PROCLAIMED

*Hymn of Preparation “Song of the Prophets” Congregation (Tune: Kingsfold, #167, Lyrics: Michael Morgan)

In ages past the mighty Lord by prophets spoke the word, And from their lips God’s great design throughout the earth was

heard. In revelation, parable, bold fantasy and dream,

They echoed God’s eternal vow to ransom and redeem.

Yet still in present, troubled days, we seek to hear God’s voice,

And in the face of our distress, find reason to rejoice. Grant us the wisdom to discern through faith who we should be

A fallen race, restored through grace, a captive world set free.

Preparing For Next Sunday: Scripture Lessons March 29th Old Testament Lesson Isaiah 50:4-9a New Testament Mark 11:1-11, 14:1-2, 15:29-30

We express our condolences, sympathies and Christian prayers to our Senior Minister,

Rev, Dr, Mark McKim, and family (mother Thelma and brother Estey) whose father, Gordon McKim, passed away suddenly in

Saint John, New Brunswick, late on Sunday, March 15th, following a stroke. Dr. McKim

expressed his deep appreciation to members of the FBC family for the many calls and other kindnesses he has received in this past week.

He apologizes for not having been able to return all your calls and asks for your

continued prayers at this time.

DATING AND AUTHORSHIP OF ZECHARIAH The exact date and authorship of the Book of Zechariah is a matter of

scholarly debate, to a large degree because chapters 1-8 and chapters 9-14 of

the book are so very different in style and approach. Some scholars go so far

as to speculate that what is called the Book of Zechariah was in fact the work

of two different people, brought together at some point as one book. Others

argue that although there was one author throughout, chapters 9-14 went

through an extensive period of editorial refinement among the people of God

before coming to its final form as we have it today. In the end, however, the

Book of Zechariah has come to us as part of God`s Word – whatever the

process or editing may have been – and we accept it as part of God`s Word –

must work to understand what God is saying through it, to us, today.
