FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH

Welcome in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Bibles (blue cover) and hymnbooks (brown cover) are provided for your use.

A nursery is available in the lower hall for infants and toddlers.

Washrooms are also located in the lower hall.

If you wish to have a cushion or hard of hearing headset, please speak to one of the ushers who will be happy to obtain these items for you.

We invite you to complete one of the blue Visitor Cards in the pew rack and place it in the offering plate toward the end of the worship service. This will help us get to know you better!

Please silence cell phones and other electronics. Speak softly, move slowly and allow each one present to listen for God’s voice.

Many people have allergies to fragrances and perfumes, so we try to keep our church a scent-free zone in consideration of the health and wellbeing of others! Thank you!

Should you wish to have someone pray with or for you, today’s Deacon-on-Duty will be pleased to meet with you following the worship service. Please come to the front, west side pew.

Perhaps this prayer may help you begin your preparation today: Almighty God, in the passion of Your blessed Son Jesus, You made an instrument of painful death to be for us the means of life and peace: grant us so to glory in the cross of Christ that we may gladly offer for His sake, who is alive and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen!

THE WORD OF GOD READ

Scripture Reader:

Old Testament Lesson: Isaiah 53:1-11 (O.T.pg. 683) Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 22:1-5, 14-18, 27-31

Leader: My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from helping me,

from the words of my groaning?

Congregation: O my God, I cry by day, but You do not

answer; and by night, but find no rest.

Leader: Yet You are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.

Choir: In You our ancestors trusted; they trusted, and You delivered them.

Leader: To You they cried, and were saved; in You they trusted and were not put to shame.

Congregation: I am poured out like water, and all my

bones are out of joint;

Leader: My heart is like wax; it is melted within my

breast.

Choir: My mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaws; You lay me in the dust of death.

Leader: For dogs are all around me; a company of evildoers encircles me.

Congregation: My hands and feet have shriveled; I can

count all my bones.

Leader: They stare and gloat over me; they divide

my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast lots.

Congregation: All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord; and all the

families of the nations shall worship before Him.

Leader: For dominion belongs to the Lord, and He

rules over the nations.

Choir: To Him indeed, shall all who sleep in the earth bow down;

Congregation: Before Him shall bow down all who go down to the dust and I shall live for

Him.

Leader: Posterity will serve Him;

ALL: Future generations will be told about the Lord, and proclaim His deliverance

to a people yet unborn saying that He has done it.

*Gloria Patri #623 Congregation Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen, Amen.

LEARNING FOR LIFE BEGINS NEXT SUNDAY, 9:30 a.m.

Colossians: Staying On Track

Facilitator: Rev. Ron Phillips

Location: Board Room

An 8 week study of Paul’s letter to the Colossian Church. We

will cross the divide of time and culture into Paul’s world,

attempting to understand the text in its 1st century setting,

then we will let the text speak into our times and our lives. Our

goal is to allow the Holy Spirit to use Scripture and God’s

people to sharpen the life we’re living for Christ.

Is there an electrician in the congregation who could assist AV with an electrical grounding issue?

Please contact Hilary Ryan 306-584-1953 if you would be able to assist with this issue.

If you can read music and play hymns on the piano, there is a ministry for you at First Baptist Place. This could be once a month, every other month or on the fifth Wednesdays. The chapel service is on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to

7:45. For more information contact Norma Holtslander, 306-586-3786 or

[email protected]

The Tuesday night discussion group will begin meeting on September 15th.

The first evening will be an information and “catch up with old friends and

meet new friends” evening. The group starts at 6:00 p.m. and meets in the

church library. We look forward to seeing you there and to this new season

of discussions. TNT starts September 15th with a meal prepared by the

Hillmers. Please register with the church office (306-359-1450) or the

Hillmers (306-586-2409) by September 13th at the latest.

1. CALLING ALL SINGERS First Baptist Sanctuary Choir is recruiting singers NOW for 2015-2016! Spiritual Requirements: This is FBC’s longest serving small group ministry team, implying a strong commitment to Christ and to the service of His body, the church. Musical Requirements: Choir members must commit themselves to learning their music well. Though the ability to read music is ideal, choir members must at least have the ability to match pitch to follow a part. The director reserves the right to give counsel in these areas and to advise you about this. Rehearsal schedule: The Sanctuary Choir rehearses every Thursday evening from 7:00-8:45 p.m. in the sanctuary choir loft. The fall 2015 ministry season began on Thursday, September 10th. A consistent commitment to the rehearsal/music ministry schedule of the choir is expected of all “ministers of music” of the choir. Ministry Schedule: The Sanctuary Choir sings in the regular Sunday morning worship services. The choir also prepares extended season presentations appropriate to the church calendar. *Christmas Glory Presentation – Sunday, December 13th, 7:00 p.m. **Easter Alleluia – Sunday, March 20, 2016, 7:00 p.m. ***Concert of Praise – Sunday, May 22, 2016, 7:00 p.m. (to be confirmed). These presentations will feature the entire musical family of FBC, plus guest musicians and Seasonal Singers.

NOTE: Although the choir requires committed “regulars”, additional “seasonal singers” are encouraged to join the choir for the special music ministry presentations. Details will be announced.

PRAYERFULLY consider your involvement in the Sanctuary Choir! Although there is no formal audition, the director reserves the right to “interview” you/have you “try out” for a couple of Thursday rehearsals and Sunday worship services.

If you are interested please contact Pastor John Nelson as follows Home: 306-584-7434, Office: 306-359-1450, E-mail: [email protected]

“In God’s service, our abilities begin with a HUMBLE attitude of AVAILABILITY.”

2. JuBELLation Ringers Begins Anew FBC’s second longest serving small group ministry, JuBELLation Ringers, begins rehearsing on Tuesday, September 15, 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Interested handbell ringers please contact Pastor John. Come ring with us!

VOICE IS STARTING WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH!!

VOICE will be starting up soon! We will be reading Philip Yancey’s new book “Vanishing Grace: Whatever Happened to the Good News?” Phillip Yancey explores what may have contributed to hostility toward Christians, especially Evangelicals, and offers illuminating stories of how faith can be expressed in ways that disarm even the most cynical critics. It is available on Amazon.ca and Chapters.ca in hardcopy and electronic versions.

Voice is a women’s literature group which meets every two weeks on Wednesday evening to discuss a book related to our spiritual journey. And more than that, we are a support system for each other, sharing our blessings and challenges and seeking a better understanding of God in our daily lives. If you are interested in joining Voice or just want more info – please talk to Laureen Snook 306-757-8403 or Martha Pauls.

The Achiever’s Bible Study will begin again on

Wednesday, September 16th at 10:30 a.m. in the

Board Room. This is for everyone 50+ who is free

at that time. II Timothy 3:16 tells us that “All

Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach

us what is true and to make us realize what is

wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are

wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”

So we are going to take a look at the book of Hebrews this year

from the perspective of the everyday Christian living in the 21st

century. Consider this your personal invitation. For more

information please contact Norma Holtslander, 306-586-3786 or

email [email protected].

CBM NEWS LEBANON: Elie and Mireille Haddad, CBM field staff in Lebanon, ask for prayer for the start of the new academic year at Arab Baptist Theological Seminary that equips leaders for the Church in the Arab world. “Pray for the returning students as they come back to continue their training. Pray that we get the visas for all the new students. Please pray also for the war in Syria, Iraq, and the region, and for the resulting humanitarian crisis. It is very inspiring how the international community is now waking up to the plight of the Syrians. A lot of attention is now being drawn to the need to resettle Syrians. This is great. However, we need more attention given to stopping the war and helping Syrians return to their homes. Please pray for a peaceful ending to the war and for dignity to be given back to all those affected. PHILIPPINES: Pray for the continued transition of CBM field staff Duane and Carin Guthrie and family who moved this past summer to the Philippines as part of an exciting and strategic area of ministry opening up marketplace ministry. Pray for strength, patience, wisdom and guidance. Remember too in prayer their CBM colleagues, Emo and Kathy Yango, who work with Muslim communities in the Philippines.
