INTERIM FINANCIAL REPORT

We had a successful financial year in 2013. For 2014 we must continue to manage our operations and control the line of credit. At their last meeting, the Trustees approved a further reduction in the limit of our Operating Line of Credit, from $50,000 to $40,000. We now have the opportunity to focus on a couple of important things.

Church Bonds

At the end of 2013 there were 38 individuals holding $607,000 in At the end of 2013 there were 38 individuals holding $607,000 in bonds. The bonds all mature on December 31, 2017. Finance and Audit are planning for this date with the following activities in 2014:

Contacting all bondholders to discuss their financial plans for the bonds they hold.

Investigating and adopting tools for bondholders to donate their bonds to the church providing benefits and flexibility to the bondholders.

Working with DULF and other programmes to optimize fund Working with DULF and other programmes to optimize fund raising for bond redemptions.

Considering options such as a loan or re-issue of bonds if there is still outstanding debt at December 31, 2017.

2014 Special Appeal

The operating budget approved for 2014 did not include funds for special projects or initiatives. In May/June an appeal will be presented to the congregation for funds dedicated to specific purposes. In the past, we have done this successfully for the

7

purposes. In the past, we have done this successfully for the Building Fund, for the Bond Redemption Fund, and to reduce our Operating Line of Credit. The Trustees will consider the best use or greatest need for funds in defining the Spring Financial Appeal.

LENT

Lent is the period of forty days (excluding Sundays) before Easter. It is an ancient custom of the church to use this as a time of preparation for the celebration disciplines. Lent is a custom-mentioned by the Bible-so everyone is free to observe or not observe Lent. However, over the centuries, countless millions of Christians have found that observing Lent is a spiritually beneficial practice. Recognizing the wisdom of the experience of so many believers, here at First Baptist Church we encourage people to observe Lent. There are many ways you might we encourage people to observe Lent. There are many ways you might choose to observe Lent.

-Devote Extra Time To Prayer

Perhaps you might choose to focus on praying for one particular person you

-Fasting

Fasting may involve abstaining from certain foods, or perhaps refraining from eating one meal a week entirely. Jesus expected His followers to fast,

8

strange it may seem, fasting is a way to take away, in order to add. Fasting by every word

-Self Examination

When was the last time you actually sat down, quietly, and without interruption, and asked, how serious am I about following Jesus?

-Seeking Reconciliation With Others

Are there people from whom you are estranged-particularly other people in this church? Perhaps now is the time to do something about that.

-Giving Alms For The Poor

Jesus has a special concern for the poor and the marginalized. Perhaps you might consider

developing countries, or to the Regina Food Bank.

Good question! By long standing tradition, every Sunday is considered to be a mini-celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. As such it can never be a

never counted as part of the days of Lent. For many Christians around the world who fast during Lent, Sunday is the one day of the week when they may eat the special food they have denied to themselves elsewise.
