Kindergarten Korner with Mrs. Yacovelli March 14-23, 2016 A Peek at Our Week: Rabbits, Leprechauns, Easter and Spring! Our stories this and next week include getting ready for Spring! We will read non-fiction books about rabbits and then a few fictional stories about rabbits. Two of my favorites are The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter and The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. Another favorite of mine for Easter is Rechenka’s Eggs by Patricia Polacco. Social Studies includes learning about the history of St. Patrick’s Day and locating Ireland on a map. Science lessons include learning about the changing seasons and Spring. Fundations lessons continue our work with writing, spelling, and reading words with the CVC pattern. We work with learning the difference between a real word (pig) and a nonsense word (jev). High-frequency words should be able to be read “in a snap”. These words we do not decode. I will be sending the entire word list home this week in flashcard form for you to practice. Bold words are tested (25). Not bold words are good to know for guided reading (20). Writing Workshop lessons continue with how to write an informational piece or a “how-to” book. We will also do some special writing for St. Patrick’s Day and Spring. Math lessons include working with the graphs, coin exchanges, and subtraction number stories. Monday 3/14 is Day 2: Art with Mrs. vanRuler Tuesday is Day 3: Health with Mr. Pawlick Wednesday is Day 4: Music with Mr. Einhorn Thursday is Day 5: Computer with Mrs. Randall Friday is Day 6: Phys Ed with Mr. Pawlick Monday 3/21 is Day 1: Library Tuesday 3/22 is Day 2: Art Wednesday 3/23 is Day 3: Health Encore Schedule
