A Message from the District Governor
Greetings to all Rotarians in District 7410. It is already October and I am excited that we will all be
gathering at the beautiful Skytop Lodge in the scenic Pocono Mountains for our District Conference
on October 26-28.
It is most appropriate that during Vocational Month, we are honored to have Dr. David P. Greenberg, Senior Director of Scientific and Medical Affairs at Sanofi Pasteur in Sweetwater, PA as a guest
speaker. Sanofi Pasteur and Rotary International are linked together through a common inter-
est...Polio. Sanofi Pasteur manufactures the vaccine used to treat children throughout the world.
Serving as the Rotary International President’s Representative at our conference is G. Kenneth Morgan, Director, Rotary Inter-
national, 2004 -2006. He is serving his third year as member of the Rotary International Operations Review Committee and an
At-large member of the 2013 Council on Legislation. Ken has been involved in the leadership of a seven district PETS since
1991. Ken and his wife Winnie, a professional speaker and trainer, are Rotary Foundation Major Donors and Benefactors.
To add to the impressive list of great speakers who will attend our conference is the one and only John T. Capps. John is a
member of the Rotary Club of Morehead City Noon, NC. John is a motivational speaker throughout the Rotary World. He has
served as Chair of the RI Interact Committee, as a zone coordinator for PolioPlus and participated in a number of Polio immuni-zation days in India. He is the recipient of the Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service and the Distinguished Service
Award and RI’s Service Above Self Award.
Finally members of our own district will add to this great event by adding their soloist talents at many of our plenary ses-
sions. Eric Martin, Rotary Club of Dallas, will sing “God Bless America.” David Yefko, Rotary Club of Plymouth, will sing his
favorite Elvis Presley songs, and Hannah Kasko, a twelve-year-old soloist, will sing during the Saturday night dinner.
Come on October 26, 27 and 28 to beautiful Skytop Lodge and rekindle your enthusiasm about Rotary. Join your friends for an
inspiring weekend of golf, song, country western dance music, inspirational plenary session speakers and great friendship and
fellowship.
If you have not yet made your room reservations, there is GOOD NEWS. There are rooms still available. If you plan to come
for the day, you are most welcome. Please complete your registration form and send it to Jerry Reisch by October 12. Skytop
needs a count of dinner guests so they can ensure that they have sufficient food for all. If you want to play golf or go to the ca-
sino on Friday, October 12 is the last day to register with Jerry for those events as well.
Please review pages 3 through 8 of this newsletter for more information, paying particular attention to Page 4 where we have
given you a preview of the agenda and events for the weekend. We look forward to seeing you for the weekend or for just one
day.
All the best,
DG Art

Why go to District Conference?
Let me list some very good reasons:
You will enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded Rotarians
who want to work together to bring Peace Through Ser-
vice.
You will learn more about Rotary at the district and interna-
tional levels and be able to share that knowledge with
your other club members when you get home. Better
yet, bring them with you.
You will want to bring your family because this year we
have special activities for them such as golf, a casino trip
and special activities for children.
You will experience the pride and joy of watching our youth
exchange students as they present the flags and colors of
their homelands.
You will benefit from plenary sessions about how to in-
crease your membership and how to effectively get the
word out about what it is we do at Rotary.
You will learn more about grants that can actually bring
funds back to your club to invest in your community.
And you will be able to spend three wonderful days at Skytop
which was recently voted the best resort in North America. And
did we mention the gourmet meals?
So what are you waiting for? Invitations have been mailed. Reg-
istration forms are also in this newsletter and on the district web
site. Sign up early and get your other club members to sign up
too! See you at district conference in the beautiful Pocono Moun-

New Rotary Foundation Speakers Bureau
Looking for interesting speakers for your weekly meeting? District 7410 now has a new resource for
you! We have created a Rotary Foundation Speakers Bureau for our District. The Speakers Bureau is
a list of Rotarians who have participated in a Rotary Foundation Program and would be willing to share
that experience. Presenting Rotary Foundation speakers at your club meeting is a great way to educate
members about the good our Foundation does in the world. We have speakers who will share experi-
ences with Group Study Exchange, Matching Grant projects, Polio Immunization and many more top-
ics. Just follow this link to access the list:
http://www.rotarydistrict7410.org/SpeakerBureau.cfm. If you have a Rotary Foundation experience,
it’s not too late to be added to our list. Please send your name, contact information, and the topic of
your talk to Lisa Finkelstein at [email protected].

District Governor Visits Hazleton Rotary- New District
7410 Governor Art Peoples (right) made his official visit
to the Rotary Club of Hazleton, outlining plans for the
coming Rotary year. Hazleton Club President Paul
Malone, left, presided at the meeting.
Joseph Cammisa (second from left) and Neal DeAn-
gelo have been named the newest recipients of the
Paul Harris Fellowship, the highest award in Rotary.
The awards were recently presented by the immediate
past president of the Rotary Club of Hazleton, Jerry
Benz,(left) and president Paul Malone.
THE ROTARY CLUB OF HAZLETON
The Rotary Club of Hazleton was launched in the Roar-
ing Twenties and is in its 92nd year of fellowship and
community service.
The main objective of Rotary is service in the commu-
nity, in the workplace and throughout the world. Ro-
tary volunteers build goodwill and peace, provide hu-
manitarian service and encourage high ethical standards
in all vocations.
Rotary members are professional men and women who
work as volunteers to improve the quality of life in
their home and work community. Club membership
represents a cross-section of local business and profes-
sional leaders. Rotary International is one of the of
world’s largest service organizations with some 30,000
autonomous clubs in more than 160 countries.
Members are expected to maintain an acceptable atten-
dance, pay annual dues to their club and participate in
the club’s fundraising and other projects. New mem-
bers are introduced at a weekly club meeting and pre-
sented with their Rotary lapel pin by their club sponsor.
Members must wear their name badges at every weekly
meeting. In order for a new Rotarian to graduate from
a red “new” member to a blue "full member" badge, he
or she must complete four requirements from a list of
seven.
Although the weekly meetings and fellowships events
are part of a Rotarian’s life, the main component of
membership is honoring its commitment to the club
motto, “Service Above Self.” This is done through
developing and presenting community service pro-
jects, sponsorship of various community improvement
activities and taking part in the club’s fundraising op-
portunities that provide and maintain these projects.

Group Study Exchange Trip to Mexico
Buenas Dias, fellow Rotarians,
Our summer is quickly passing by and the deadline
for the Group Study Exchange applications for the
trip to Mexico is approaching. We would like to re-
ceive as many applications as possible so that we
can choose the most qualified individuals for our
dynamic team. If you had someone in mind but
have not yet spoken to them about the GSE trip,
please hurry and do so. You can give them my
phone number if you don't have time to give them
information about the trip and I will explain every-
thing. However, you can also find all of the infor-
mation for the trip on the District web-
site: rotarydistrict7410.org - click on Group Study
Exchange in the left hand column. The application
is there too. If you or your potential candidate has
any questions, please don't hesitate to contact
m e : 5 7 0 - 8 8 5 - 0 7 3 1 o r
email: [email protected].
This is a rare opportunity and one that will fulfill the
dreams of certain individuals. Please do your part in
getting this information into the hands of that select
individual who can take their skills or knowledge
and share with their counterparts in Mexico, enjoy
the beauty and culture of the various cities that the
team will visit, experience the homelife and cuisine,
and be our ambassador. Thank you so much for
your time and effort.

THE ROTARY CLUB OF FREELAND
Pasco Schiavo recently shared the contents of his recent
book, Betrayal and Deliverance of a Community, with
the Rotary Club of Freeland. The book chronicles the
opportunity Hazleton and surrounding communities had
to become its own county with a successful vote author-
izing it in the Pennsylvania legislature, only to be vetoed
by a corrupt Governor. Schiavo believes the area never
recovered from this betrayal to this day. The book is
available in most community libraries at Amazon.com.
