Outrigger Enterprises Group has appointed Marc Landgraf as the General Manager of the Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort in Thailand, effective 18 August 2016. The resort is a 52-key all-suite and villa beachfront property in Samui that has just completed major renovations and enhancements. Outrigger acquired the property in mid 2015. Landgraf has over 30 years’ hotel industry experience, much of it at general manager level in Asia at leading holiday resorts in southern Thailand. He will report to William Visser, the Outrigger Vice President of Operations who is based in the company’s Asia Pacific regional office in Phuket. Before the move, Landgraf, a French national, was General Manager at the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Resort and Villas for three years and General Manager at the former Outrigger Phi Phi Island Resort and Spa. Before joining Outrigger in 2012 Landgraf served as General Manager of the Cape Panwa Hotel & Spa in Phuket, Director of Sales at Aleenta Resorts and Spa, Thailand, and as General Manager of the Paradise Koh Yao Boutique Resort and Spa near Phuket. Landgraf also draws on resort management experience in the Dominican Republic and in serviced apartment management in Brussels. He has extensive experience in sales, food and beverage, as well as resort management. Landgraf knows Koh Samui well having been a resort manager at Saboey Resort & Villas on the island. He has also managed a Brazilian restaurant in a large hotel there. “Marc brings with him solid resort management experience in southern Thailand and knows the Outrigger way,” said Darren Edmonstone, Outrigger Managing Director, Asia Pacific. ”He offers all the key credentials to take our beautifully refurbished resort in Samui to the next level.” Landgraf who speaks German and Spanish as well as his native French and English, is a graduate in International Hospitality Management from the Hotel Management School in Lausanne, Switzerland. Landgraf succeeds Rory Campbell the out-going General Manager at the Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort.

I am also pleased to join human resources in congratulating Daniel Roy on his appointment to director of revenue management Fiji as of Sept. 1 and in welcoming Marian Khan as resort manager Castaway Island, Fiji (FCI) as of Aug. 16. Daniel

will report directly to Steven Andrews, general manager at FCI, and Peter Hopgood,

general manager at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort (FOR), with a dotted line to Jason Zvatora, corporate director of revenue management and distribution, Asia Pacific. Daniel has been a key operational and strategic resource at FCI and brings not only resort-specific experience in his new role, but a broad experience in the Fijian hospitality industry. He will be

responsible for managing distribution strategies on all channels to increase revenue and drive market share and communicate revenue management strategic visions to the resort leadership team. Daniel joined FCI in 2012 as operations manager and subsequently moved to the position of resort manager. Before joining the Castaway vuvale (family), he worked for the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Denarau as part of the pre-opening team and at Sonaisali Island Resort near Nadi. A graduate of the Fiji National University and currently completing his master’s in business administration at the University of the South Pacific, Fiji, Daniel’s ultimate goal is to be a successful general manager and believes his new role will equip him with the tools needed to achieve this goal. Daniel is married with two children and delights in spending time with family and friends. He also enjoys traveling, sports and music.

Marian joins FCI from her previous employment as revenue analyst at Ahura Resorts Fiji and resort manager at Malolo Island Resort Fiji. She also has experience as a central reservations manager, front office manager and food and beverage manager. She will report directly to Steven Andrews and will manage the operations to ensure the high standards of guest satisfaction and operational performance standards are maintained. Marian’s hobbies include hand-line fishing and charity volunteer work. The best advice she has ever received is “never settle for anything less than the best” and her most inspirational public figure is her cousin, Fijian human rights activist Shamima Ali.

strange-sounding mosquito borne diseases – dengue fever, Zika and chickungunya. As people travel more, these diseases are becoming more prevalent around the globe and popping up in new places. Fortunately, there are steps we can all take to protect ourselves from these mosquito-borne diseases and keep them from spreading. First be vigilant and eliminate standing water – e.g., persistent puddles – because that’s where mosquitoes breed. Second, wear appropriate clothing and use insect repellant when outdoors in areas where mosquitoes are likely to be present. The Hawai‘i State Department of Health has published an excellent “Fight the Bite” flier (http://tinyurl.com/zjzk9nw) aimed at preventing the spread of these diseases and keeping them out of Hawai‘i. While the flier specifically targets a Hawai‘i audience, its advice is applicable around the world, and I advise everyone to pay close attention to this important information. This is also an excellent time to remember that many of the most common contagious diseases we are likely to encounter are passed from person to person by our hands. Washing our hands thoroughly can go a long, long way to keeping us all healthy. Hepatitis A, for example, is currently a concern in many areas, and frequent thorough hand washing can prevent its spread. (http://tinyurl.com/jnjl6kv) At Outrigger we take public health seriously and do whatever we can to pitch in and help keep our communities safe for everyone. It’s just part of being good hosts and good corporate citizens in Hawaii and all the communities across the Pacific and Indian oceans where we do business.
