General Comments: ““Why is the MI empty on Saturday mornings? Because we’re all at the farmers’ market enjoying homemade pretzels and perusing locally grown produce.” “Farmer's Markets! An advantage of this area is the wide variety of foods grown in Indiana and Michigan. The South Bend farmer's market is convenient and has pretty good options for food, especially produce, dairy and poultry (get your Turkey Day turkey here). The American Countryside market in Elkhart, however, is much further away but an absolute gem. Fresh Amish homemade cheeses and butter (you could eat the butter like ice cream, it's so good), lots of baked goods, herbs and spices, and grassfed beef, poultry, pork, and buffalo. It also has lots of stands selling

prepared food and is a great place to catch lunch while you do your shopping. Mishawaka Dog Park “This is a massive off-leash dog run at Margaret Prickett Marina Park, which is on the south side of Jefferson Boulevard between Wyland Marine and Boone State Fish Hatchery, across from the AM General Assembly Plant (east of town, about a 10 minute drive from campus, but well worth the distance). Great opportunity to run your dog, socialize with other dogs and owners. Take a day and go out into nature! A few suggestions: Grand Mere State Park (near Benton Harbor) - Dogs on leash are allowed at the beach and on the hiking trails. The one mile beach is located along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. Remember to clean up after your pet. To get there, take I-94 south of St. Joseph and take Exit 22. Go west .25 miles to Thornton Drive and head south on Thornton for .5 miles. Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore- The dunes, the nature center, trails, and special programs throughout the year make this an interesting place to visit. Dogs of all sizes are allowed. There are no additional pet fees. Dogs must be on no more than a 6 foot leash and be cleaned up after. From October 1st to April 30th dogs are allowed at West Beach, Camel, Dunbar, and Lakeview. They are allowed at all through the year at Central Beach and Mount Baldie. The camping and tent areas also allow dogs.”
