INVESTIGATIONSSooner or later, at least one PC is going to want to take a more proactive

approach and protect Don Maggio by finding and stopping whoever is send-ing the hit men. This investigation can be conducted in between action scenesor it can take place after the attacks on Don Maggio have been dealt with.Either approach to the adventure works, but weaving together action andinvestigation is more satisfying.

As the GM, you control the action scenes of this adventure. The villainsattack the heroes when and where they want to, and the players must react toeach situation as you present it. For the investigative scenes of the adventure,that control should be reversed. You should encourage the players to investi-gate where and how they like, even if it means improvising because they’repursuing an possibility not covered in this adventure.

(I like to think we’ve covered all the likely possibilities, but if they decideto investigate Buzzbomb’s childhood you’re on your own. Perhaps he grewup in a small town in Indiana, and his parents still live there. Maybe they’ll

know something useful, like where he’s been staying in the city. That’s thesort of improvisation you’ll have to do – something that rewards the players
