All Von Arkel Calibers are born in a region internationally recognised for its expertise in eyewear and high end watchmaking. This concept combines the best of both worlds, so it is no coincidence that specialists in each field have contributed greatly to the project.
Just an hour away from Von Arkel’s headquarters, the Morez Valley in the French Jura is the birthplace of the great French eyewear industry, where renowned experts keep this tradition alive. The Entourage Collection is all about the respect we owe Nature. Used since centuries, buffalo horn is an organic and environmentally conscious material, farmed from domesticated Indian buffalos that have passed away.
Steaming water vapour is used to unroll the horns flat, which are then cut into thin slices and recomposed to create the frames. With a precious look and feel, the light and also hypoallergenic material does not hold heat back, for optimal fit against your skin.

A technological marvel, the Von Arkel hinge is made using the same fusion of tempered steel and polishing techniques used in watchmaking. It offers exceptional solidity and sturdiness, making it more resistant to scratches and marks.
Its mechanism allows the lenses to be tightened while ensuring freedom of arm movement thanks to integrated friction regulation.
Complex in its design and conception but basic in its handling, this inventive and patented system is manufactured by Swiss master bar turners of the watchmaking network via a unique process.
Interchangeable, the Von Arkel hinge is also available in a number of different finishings, from polished stainless steel to 23.5-carat gold finished by PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition). A combination of different processes ensure durable and subtly-coloured colour hues.

Von Arkel’s Calibers 9 and 7.95 represent simplicity inspired by the virtuosity of the most wonderful watch movements.
With no screws, no rivets, no soldering nor setting, the Caliber 9 and 7.95 are composed of two parts only. The system allows fixing the lenses and temples simultaneously thanks to a double lock mechanism : while the axis clamps the lenses’ frame in place, the temples lock the whole system together. The opening and closing motion of the temples are friction limited and can vary depending on the collection and the needs.
Von Arkel’s Caliber 9 and 7.95 - made out of stainless steel - offer opticians an easy assemby of the eyewear thanks to a watch inspired « plug & play » process.
The hinge has an internal opening and closing mechanism clutch with no protruding points and therefore has zero risk of pinching.

In our stainless steel range, the metal parts are created by combining two technologies.
The result? Exceptionally precise cut-lines and perfectly-balanced flexibility depending on the frame part itself. Simply put, those parts subject to heavy use are thicker, while those requiring greater mobility are thinner. This guarantees maximum comfort while ensuring the greatest solidity at the key wear-points.
