the sky represents how we may be feeling a little disconcerted at the moment.
The cracks in the wall of the house are a sign of difficult times ahead and how we will have to rethink our survival

We (me, my partner and his daughter) are in Spain in lockdown, in a small ‘chalet’ in the hills in the middle of a forest, with just two neighbours, our friends, Kate and Mike. It is idyllic, but isolated. We spend our days fixing the house and working in the field and garden. One day Kate showed us some broken tiles she found while she was walking the dog. We loved them; they were colourful and hand painted but incomplete. one showed a blue hand reaching for an orange…The next day I went to the same field and found more …then Kate went again….gradually I started to put
together the jigsaw. The complete design was of two satyrs taking oranges (are they stealing or sharing them?!).Eventually we had an idea for a shared art project: each of us recreated a part of the design on a larger scale.I have painted the original piece of tile to the same scale on a broken hoe. It represents all the things we cherish: our field, our neighbours, our oranges and our luck in being surrounded by Spanish countryside and culture. I only had green, yellow and white paint so I had to make the orange and red by collecting cochineal bugs and squashing them!
