WELCOME TO KC GAME FAIR 2014!We hope to make this an enjoyable and memorable gaming convention for all attendees. This booklet should contain the information you need, but if you have questions, please ask at the registration desk.

WHAT IS THE KC GAME FAIR?The KC Game Fair brings several long standing KC area gaming conventions under one roof. This year, the KC Game Fair is being run as a private enterprise venture with the Role-Players Guild of Kansas City continuing in the role of event coordinators.

WHICH GROUPS ARE PARTICIPATING?This year the groups again include The Role-players Guild of KansasCity, Ltd. (ShaunCon), HAHMGS – Heart of America Historical Miniatures Gaming Society (BorderWars) and the Metro Game League (Blockhead! board game convention).

WHAT TYPES OF GAMES ARE AVAILABLE?This year’s offering includes board games, historical and other miniatures war gaming, role-playing games and card games.

MISCELLANEOUS RULESAll PLAYERS must have appropriate convention badge. Spectators are welcome; please see the Registration Desk for information. KC Game Fair reserves the right to request that any guest leave the convention premises should staff deem with cause that the attendee’s behavior, demeanor, or presence negatively impacts others at the convention.

Events must occur at their scheduled table/locations unless their relocation is approved by convention staff. Games or events may NOT be moved to private hotel rooms or other areas of the hotel.

The selling or advertising of merchandise by unauthorized dealers within the convention areas is prohibited. If you want to sell anything to anyone, you must purchase a dealer’s table or place the item in the Gamers’ Garage Sale. This includes individual card or game sales.

Flyers and advertisements for events, groups and stores beyond the convention may be placed on the flyer table. They may not be handed out in manner that disrupts events or suggests support from KC Game Fair.

The Role-Players Guild of Kansas City and KC Game Fair are committed in all areas to providing a fun and safe environment that is free from harassment. Harassment based upon an

individual’s sex, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, religion or any other legally protected characteristics will not be tolerated. All attendees, spectators, staff and guests are all expected to abide by this policy.

Children under the age of 12 years of age must have an accountable parent or guardian supervising them. KC Game Fair takes no responsibility for supervision of children, either as attendees or as non-attendee guests.

All events are subject to substitution or cancellation without prior notice. We don’t plan to do this, but it is often out of our control.

In consideration of other gamers (and city ordinance), smoking is not allowed in any convention area.

FEATURED ACTIVITIES

BENEFIT RAFFLEKC Game Fair is holding a benefit event for Harvestors again this year. Help us help those in need by attending the raffle Saturday at 6:00 pm. Purchase tickets at the Convention HQ/RPGKC desk. Harvesters is a local food bank, which is a centralized food collection and distribution facility that provides food and household products to agencies serving people in need. In 2008, Harvesters distributed more than 28 million pounds of food and household products in our 13-county direct service area in and around Kansas City. For more information go to www.harvesters.org.

GAMERS’ GARAGE SALEThe garage sale is run by the Role-Players Guild of Kansas City and features items from con attendees. It is open during most of the convention. To purchase items, browse the table and find what you want. Take it to the checkout -- no bidding or hassles.

To sell items, you need a GGS Registration Form, available at Con HQ/RPGKC. Fill in your name, address, phone number and an item description plus your price for each item. Prices must be in 50-cent increments. Place a price and number on your item and place it on the sale tables. You may check out at any time by picking up your unsold items and the money for the items that have been sold; picture ID will be required.

The Role-Players Guild of Kansas City will keep a 10% commission from your total sales to help support their not for profit activities. That is, if the asking price for your sold items totals $25.00, you will receive $22.50, as the Guild keeps 10% ($2.50). Any items left unclaimed at the end of the convention become property of the Role-Players Guild of Kansas City.

All items are sold as-is, and the Guild takes no responsibility for any missing pieces, damaged, or otherwise undesirable items.

There is a 20-item limit per attendee, and items must be related to gaming. You must be a member of Role-Players Guild of Kansas City to sell items in the sale.

HEROES OF ROKUGAN: TOYS FOR TOTS DRIVEThe Heroes of Rokugan event staff will be collecting toys for the Toys for Tots program.

Any Heroes of Rokugan player who brings one or more toys to donate will receive a “cert” for a free experience point for one character. This can be used now, or saved for later (maximum gained is one experience point). KC Game Fair participants are encouraged to bring toys for donation even if they will not benefit from the experience point bonus. The standard restrictions apply to donated toys: new, unwrapped toys only. There has been an expressed need that toys for teens are especially in demand, though any toys for children of all ages are welcome and accepted.

Note: If you want to ensure your experience point, be sure to coordinate your donation with the Heroes of Rokugan staff!

STERLING HERSHEYSterling continues his long association with the various versions of the Star Wars RPG as a writer and developer on Fantasy Flight Games’ new versions, Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, and the upcoming Force and Destiny, now in Beta. Sterling previously contributed to the d6, d20 and Saga Edition versions of the game, as well as the Star Wars Miniatures Game. He is also one of the authors of the ENnie award winning D&D 4e Monster Vault: Threats to the Nentir Vale, and contributes regularly to Dungeon and Dragon magazines through D&D Insider. Sterling will be running his new Dungeons and Dragons Adventurers League module “Drums in the Marsh” as well as his new The Last Parsec module “Pranac Pursuit” at KC Game Fair. MARKER JONESMarker’s far-future roleplaying game Worlds of Rage was published earlier this year, striking a rare balance between a compelling RPG storyline and simple playing mechanics, giving players a game that grows and changes with them. NATHAN KINGNathan King became the youngest 5-star GM for Pathfinder Society at the age of 21. He served as Venture-Lieutenant of St. Louis, MO and received his first freelance writing credit in January 2014 for Pathfinder scenario, #5-13: Weapon in the Rift. Nathan will be running a Kickstarter backer-exclusive version of his module “Valley of Veiled Flame.“

RUSSELL “REDJACK” PETREERussell Petree is perhaps best known by his handle “Redjack,” the sysop of the Shadowrunning community’s long-standing Dumpshock forums. Russell has been bringing Shadowrun Missions to KC Game Fair for many years, and this year he presents a Kickstarter backer-exclusive Shadowrun Convention Mission Pack written by him just for KC Game Fair!

VICKIE POTTERVickie is known best to fans of Tabletop Adventure’s game of modern Vatican horror, conspiracy and investigation “Against the Darkness” as simply The Editor. EVENT SIGN-UP - HOW TO PLAY New players trying out a miniatures game or RPG for the first time should seek out demonstration games, when available.

Gamemasters are usually willing to take on new players in most events, though a few events may require more experienced players.

If you have questions about what game to play, please see the convention staff for suggestions and aid.

ROLE-PLAYING EVENTSTo schedule role playing events, we use a combination of online registration, an on-site sign-up sheet and a marshaling system. Pre-registering online for an event prior to the convention is the best way to get into a game. However, it is still possible to play by sigining up at the convention. Pre-registered players do get the benefit of filling the first available slots in a game.

If you want to play in an event and haven’t already pre-registered online, go to the sign-up area and write your name on the event’s sign-up sheet. The sheet will list a table number for the event. At the event’s starting time, report to the table listed. If more than one table is needed, the judge will send the players to the appropriate table. Please show up on time. You MUST attend the marshaling at the table; do not assume that you can get in an event simply because your name is on the form. The order of names on the list is the order of priority should there be more players than space available. Players who pre-registered will have their names already printed on the sign up sheets and get first priority.

BOARD GAME EVENTSScheduled Board GamesLike our role-playing events, we use online pre-registration and an on-site sign-up sheet to coordinate gameplay for our board game events. Pre-registrations fill the available slots first, but you can always sign up on-site if the game isn’t full. Any board games on the event list will start at the scheduled time unless otherwise specified in the event’s description. Once you’ve signed-up to play, just got to your event’s table and have some fun.

Pick-Up Board GamesThere is a library of board games available for play at any time during the con. To start a pick-up game, simply write the name of the game on the whiteboard along with a start time and the number of players with names next to people wanting to play. For example:

Other players may sign up. At the given time, select an open table and confirm its availability with con staff. The judges can also teach games and play along if an extra person is needed.

MINIATURES EVENTSMiniature events use the same online pre-registration and on-site sign-up process as our other events. If you’ve pre-registered online, you will already be on the sign-up sheet. If you need to sign-up, go to the sign-up area and add your name to the sign-up sheet of the game you wish to play. If you find the sign-up sheet for a game is full, go over and ask if they can fit you in anyway. Sometimes they may be able to accommodate you. However, you may have to wait a couple of turns for reinforcements to arrive.

New players - do not be put off by the size of the table or the number of figures. You will only be handling a small part of them along with the other players on your side. All you really need to know in a miniatures game is, how far you move, how far you shoot, and when in the turns you do each. Everything else isn’t necessary to know until it occurs. Gamemasters will be there to guide players through any complications that occur. After a couple of turns, you will find that you and the other players have grasped the game and will only need to turn to the game master for the oddball occurrences.

Don’t panic if you break something on the soldiers. This happens. Keep a hold of the broken part and tell the person running the game. They will put it in their repair box and the game will go on.

OTHER EVENTSAttendees seeking other events should report to the area outlined by the Marshall prior to the event start time. If you have questions about the event, refer to the listed event judge to clarify them well in advance of the event.

Cinque TerreIn Cinque Terre, a light pick-up and deliver game, players compete to sell the most valuable produce in the five villages. Players act as farmers and operate a cart in which they will harvest produce and deliver them to the five villages to sell. Additionally, players will compete for Produce Order cards, which reward Lira points for selling desirable produce in specific villages. Players track sold produce in each village using their Fulfillment Cards. ConcordiaConcordia is a peaceful strategy game of economic development in Roman times for 2-5 players. Instead of looking to the luck of dice or cards, players must rely on their strategic abilities. Be sure to watch your rivals to determine which goals they are pursuing and where you can outpace them! In the game, colonists are sent out from Rome to settle down in cities which produce bricks, food, tools, wine, and cloth. Each player starts with an identical set of playing cards and acquires more cards

EclipseA game of Eclipse places you in control of a vast interstellar civilization, competing for success with its rivals. Flash Point: Fire Rescue / Extreme Danger / 2nd StoryA cooperative game of fire rescue, players are attempting to rescue 7 of 10 victims from a raging building fire. As the players attempt to rescue the victims, the fire spreads to other parts of the building, causing structural damage and possibly blocking off pathways through the building. Each turn a player may spend action points to try to extinguish fires, move through the building, move victims out of the building or perform various special actions such as moving emergency vehicles. If 4 victims perish in the blaze or the building collapses from taking too much structural damage, the players lose. Otherwise, the players win instantly when they rescue a 7th victim.Sa2p
