Parent Association Easter Fundraiser
Parents Association is asking families to do-nate an Easter egg for their Easter fundraiser. As in previous years we will run an in-school competition between classes, with the class who has the highest weight in eggs winning a whole class lunch.
The “weigh-in” will be held on Friday 24th March. We would appreciate all eggs to be brought to school prior to this day.
The eggs will then be used to make prizes for the Easter Fund-raiser. Previous years have seen up to 20 prizes being won. Tickets will be sent home for the fundraiser to be drawn on the March 14.
Thank you and good luck to everyone.

PARENTS & FRIENDS PLEASE DO NOT SMOKE NEAR SCHOOL GATES
From 13 April 2015, smoking is banned within four metres of an
entrance to all primary and secondary schools in Victoria, and
within the school grounds, under an amendment to the Tobacco Act
1987. A similar ban applying to the entrances and grounds of
Victorian childcare centres and kindergartens is also in place.
While smoking was banned on the grounds of all Victorian
Government schools by the Minister for Education in 2009 via a
Ministerial Ban Order, the new bans are enshrined in legislation
and also apply to Catholic and independent schools in Victoria.

GROWING interest and two especially talented local gardeners are help-
ing Long Gully’s community garden thrive.
The garden has been tucked away in Energetic Street for 14 years, and run
in conjunction with the Long Gully Neighbourhood Centre.
Recent times have seen the project go from strength to strength.
Such has been its success that two of its regulars won awards in the Victo-
ria In Bloom competition, sponsored by the Department of Health and
Human Services.
Long Gully local Dan
Boyd and eight-year-old
Henari Clark both won
awards for their work at
the community garden
and have been invited to
a statewide awards cere-
mony later this month.
Henari has been gardening for more than a year, and said his spe-
cialty is growing cucumbers.
“The best part is getting to eat them,” he said.
The community garden receives support from the City of Greater
Bendigo, which allows Mr Grieves to spend two days a week at the
garden.
Neighbourhood centre manager Helen Douglass said Mr Grieves
has been instrumental in helping the garden improve.
For his part, he said he loves being involved.
“The age difference we’ve got here is amazing, we have a lady
over 80 and she comes in regularly and then the kids come as well
and they love it,”Mr Grieves said.
Plots at the garden start from just $10 per year. For more infor-
mation, contact the Long Gully Neighbourhood Centre on 5442
1165.
