Roderick Williams encompasses awide repertoire, from baroque tocontemporary music, in the operahouse, on the concert platform and in recital. He wonthe Singer of the Year Award in the 2016 RoyalPhilharmonic Society Awards and was awarded the OBEfor services to music in June 2017.He enjoys relationships with all the major UK operahouses and is particularly associated with the baritoneroles of Mozart. He has also sung world premieres ofoperas by, among others, David Sawer, Sally Beamish,Michael van der Aa and Robert Saxton.His numerous recordings include Vaughan Williams,Berkeley and Britten operas for Chandos and anextensive repertoire of English song with pianist IainBurnside for Naxos.Roderick Williams is also a composer and has had workspremiered at the Wigmore and Barbican Halls, thePurcell Room and live on national radio. He was ArtisticDirector of Leeds Lieder+ in April 2016. For hisAbbotsholme recital he will sing Beethoven’s only song-cycle and Schubert’s last. Susie Allan is best known for her work as a vocalaccompanist and has partnered many establishedsingers. I n Britain she has performed at most of themajor recital venues and many festivals including theThree Choirs, Covent Garden, Harrogate, Spitalfields,Aldeburgh and Mananan. Perhaps both”.These were the words ofClaude Debussy,describing his ‘Sonate’,the most famous fluteharp viola trio everwritten. In 2018,Debussy’s centenary year, this programme of tributeexplores the music of Debussy, his influences, andmusic inspired by the ‘Sonate’.Trio Anima was formed in 2006 at the GuildhallSchool of Music and Drama and has beendelighting audiences with its distinctivecombination of flute, viola and harp. The trio wonthe Elias Fawcett Award for Outstanding ChamberEnsemble at the 2012 Royal Overseas LeagueCompetition and First Prize at the Camac HarpsChamber Ensemble Competition in 2007. In a world dominated by the media, ElisabethLeonskaja has remained true to herself and to hermusic, and in doing so, is following in the footstepsof the great Russian musicians of the Soviet era, suchas David Oistrakh, Sviatoslav Richter and Emil Gilels,who never wavered in their focus on thequintessence of music despite working in a verydifficult political environment. Her almost legendarymodesty still makes her somewhat media-shy today.Yet as soon as she walks out on the stage, audiencescan sense the force behind the fact that music is andalways has been her life’s work.Her collaboration with Richter, who was her mentor, asa piano duo partnership was legendary and today herinterpretations of Schubert in particular reflect in somemeasure his mesmerising sense of spaciousconcentration. Gitarrissima Quintet ofVienna‘A Christmas Celebration’ - Music by Bizet, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Gershwin,Copland and others.

This unique ensemble of five young female guitaristsfrom Bulgaria, Hungary, Russia, Japan and Austria hasbeen enchanting a steadily growing internationalaudience with sensitive musical interplay and virtuosoperformances. In 2014 they won 3rd Prize and thespecial Audience Prize at the 3rd InternationalCompetition for Guitar Ensembles in Aschaffenburg,Germany, when they excited both the professional juryand the audience with their performances. They createa refreshingly original sound which gives a newdimension to popular classical works as well as less wellknown compositions. The Quintet is characterised by awealth of musical colour and an orchestral densitywhich is rarely heard. Their arrangements combinecleverly balanced voicings with an airy transparencyand make ingenious use of the entire range of playingtechniques including percussive effects. The Gould Piano Trio, directly compared to thegreat Beaux Arts Trio for their “musical fire” and“dedication to the genre”, have remained at theforefront of the international chamber musicscene for a quarter of a century.

Launched by their first prize at the Melbourne ChamberMusic Competition and subsequently selected as YCATArtists, they made a highly successful debut at New York’sWeill Recital Hall, which was described by Strad Magazine as”Pure Gould”.

Their many appearances at London’s Wigmore Hall haveincluded the complete piano trios of Dvorak, Mendelssohn andSchubert – plus in the 2017-18 season, a Beethoven cycle, tocelebrate 25 years since their first appearance at this iconicvenue. The Goulds have made extensive tours of N. America,the Far East, New Zealand and Sweden, with concertsthroughout Europe. When not giving concerts, they findmaster-classes and coaching a revitalising part of their schedule,particularly as Artists in Residence at the Royal Welsh College ofMusic and Drama, where they each hold a Fellowship.

Last year,he was finalist and prizewinner, including theaudience prize, in the prestigious DudleyInternational Piano Competition having, in 2015,

secured the highest awardin the Long-Thibaud-CrespinGrand Prix when still onlysixteen years of age. In2016, he was a finalist inthe BBC Young Musician.Since then, Julian hasperformed in manyEuropean countries and with

the St.Petersburg Symphony Orchestra for his debut inRussia. His repertoire is extensive, ranging from Bach toBoulez and his Abbotsholme programme is especiallyeclectic and one that will be much anticipated.
