Weekly Newsletter Continued....

This week we will begin Unit 7: Volume and Measurement. We will be discussing how the volume of a solid figure relates to the area of a plane figure. Students will discover how objects with the same volume can have different dimensions. We are also reviewing for CRCT. Our reviews this week will be centered around decimals and fractions.

CCGPS skills for Volume and Measurement Use the formula V = l x w x h and V = b x

h to find the volume of rectangular prisms.

Convert measurements within a given measurement system. (Ex. 5 cm = 0.05 mm)

Science: We will finish our study of plant and animal cells, animal classification,

and genetics. See Mrs. Henry’s website for power points and helpful information. Cell Anchor Activity project is due April 5,

2013. Please sign and return the form that was given out 4-5-13.

All students will need to be researching to find other words that have those same Greek/Latin roots. Bonus points for new words! (Don’t give your words to your

March 15.

I was VERY proud of the students and their writing on the state writing test!!! They did an amazing job. Our scores should be back

around the first of May.

Reading SkillsThis week we will be completing our

final reading/writing assessment. It will be a persuasive essay. We will also

begin two weeks of review of reading comprehension skills in preparation for

the CRCT.

Several websites have been sent home that your child can use to prepare for the CRCT. Please make sure that your

child is reading nightly and using these websites so that they are ready to

exceed on the test!!!!!

Grammar SkillsSkills: sentence structure

Nightly review of skills covered during the day will be sent home for homework.

We will also begin a review of skills for the ELA portion of the CRCT. Please make sure that your child completes homework

each night.

Reminders*Students may buy ice cream on Thursday for $1.00.*PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD HAS PAPER AND PENCILS EVERY DAY!*Check your child’s homework assignment every day.

Writing Lab

We will continue to do mini lessons that will help the students become better writers.
