UPCOMING IMPORTANT DATES PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We are over half way through Term 2, and as usual it has been extremely busy with lots more to come before the end of the term! Our teachers are busy running first semester subject assessments, ready for the students’ reports to go home in Week 10. Stage 3 students are getting more and more excited as our Canberra/Snowfields Camp draws near. Our morning Coding Club is about to start and class finals are being held for the annual Poetry Recital competition. Also, last week our entire staff attended a 3 hour training session after work on Tuesday to maintain accreditation in CPR and Anaphylaxis Response Emergency Training. I had the pleasure of sitting in on our recent debate against Vardys Road PS. My goodness it was close! I was glad that I wasn’t the adjudicator - it was a very difficult decision as both teams argued their points very well. We were arguing for the affirmative that: Recess and Lunchtimes Should Be Extended in Schools. We won and our entire team is to be congratulated - Timekeepers: Haleigh and Hunter, Chairperson: Joanne, 1st Speaker: Arjun, 2nd Speaker: Mannat, 3rd Speaker: Danijela and Team Advisor: Emma. Well done everyone! I was very proud of you. Just a reminder to parents that there is no student supervision in our school prior to 8.30am in the morning. Playground supervision is provided from 8.30am onwards. If you send your child to school before this time you are placing them in an unsafe environment. Camp Australia provide before school care up to 8.30am. If this is not an option for you, please organise for your child to possibly wait with a neighbour until it is safe to walk to school and arrive after 8.30am. On the fundraising front we have also been very busy! Dymocks have included us this year in the annual list of schools to receive one of their Library Restocking Grants. They have very generously given us $4,300 to purchase books for our students. Our wonderful P&C has organised and distributed a mammoth Chocolate Drive that we hope will raise lots of money for our school. Keep those Woolworths Earn and Learn stickers coming - we trade them in for lots of valuable equipment each year and they form a large part of the “expenditure” we are able to use for extra equipment for our students. Also, it’s not too late to make your Voluntary Contribution of $45 per student ($70 per family) and these can be made throughout the year. It would be nice to have more than 15 families respond . If you have children who will be starting kindergarten next year, or know of friends and neighbours with school aged children, please pop in to see our lovely office ladies for enrolment forms and information for 2020. Have a great fortnight! Mrs Leigh Bade
Principal

Focus on ICT
Students have been learning a range of new
skills and information while using
technology.
The capability to use information and communication technologies encompasses the knowledge, skills and behaviours to assist students to live and work successfully in the 21st century. The use
of ICT is included across all areas of the curriculum, allowing the students the opportunity to become competent, discriminating and creative users of ICT when investigating, creating and communicating ideas and information.
Web wonders- ICT Try these games and activities online!
Kahoot.com Sign up or play a range of free Kahoot quizzes online
or from your device.
typing.com is good for Years 3-6, and parents can easily sign
their children up for a free account to follow a learn to type program.
For K-2 students mousepractice.altervista.org has good basic
mouse skills activities that the children love.
Parent tip! Use Internet Explorer to play these types of games as the flash content may not work in other browsers
Dental Assessments Parents and Carers
Dental Staff from Blacktown /Mt Druitt Dental Hospital Clinics will
be visiting the school to provide Years Kindy, 2,4, and 6 with a
short talk regarding oral health information and diet advice plus a
Free Dental check on Wednesday 19th June .
Please return your Dental consent form by Friday 14th June to
your child’s class teacher.
Mid Year Reports 2019
Teachers are in the process of completing mid-year reports.
All students will receive their reports at the end of the term.
The reports comprehensively cover student progress for
Semester 1. As parent-teacher interviews were held in Term 1,
they will not be held at this time. The front cover of the report
explains the levels of assessment. Please note: if your child is
working at the expected level for their grade, then he/she is
working at a SOUND level.
Your child has been assessed against a number of indicators on
which the stage has been working this semester. The end of year
report will be reported against another set of indicators. Included
in the report will also be your child’s self-assessment of their
progress this term.
The staff has spent many hours in preparing the reports on the
students and they have been checked many times for errors.
However, as we are all human, it is possible that a report slips
through the many eyes that check it and it goes home with an
error in it. If you do find an error and would like a corrected copy
of the report, please let your child’s teacher know so that an
amended copy can be produced for you.
If you wish to discuss the report, please see your child’s teacher.

Kindergarten Kindergarten have enjoyed learning to
log-on to the computer and are
developing their skills when navigating
the keyboard to type. They are
becoming more independent when
using the mouse to navigate to and
open programs as well as manipulating
the paintbrush and stamp tools when
using Tux Paint and other drawing
programs.
Stage 1 Students will be focusing on basic computer and word processing skills.
Stage 2 In Term 1 our Stage 2 classes had fun
using spreadsheets. The students were
able to use the fill-down function, create
graphs, format using colour and borders
as well as use basic formulae. These
skills were then applied to create a
budget and a run schedule for their
science projects. A flow chart was also
created using Google slides. Some
students inserted hyperlinks as a form
of navigation between their files.
Stage 3 Stage 3 students have been using Chromebook computers in science lessons to research sources of energy
used to generate electricity as well as the transformations required to deliver this energy to our homes. Some classes have also been using computers to
complete challenges and quizzes using Google Forms and Kahoot, a fun online program that allows the teacher to
present fast paced questions to the
class that are then instantly marked to provide feedback to each student.

Debating News
In Week 4, our debating team competed against a team from Vardys Road Public School on the topic “School recess and lunch times should be extended”. Our debaters are to be commended on their effort, working as a team to prepare a set of solid arguments that carried them to a win, confidently arguing the affirmative case
Following on from their success with wins in their first 2 debates, the team are now hard at work preparing for the next round in Week 7 when they will be arguing the affirmative case on the topic “Homework is useful”.
