Protectors & CoversInsulator Covers in white or orange, weather resistantType II SALCOR, are used with conventional line hose tocover pin-type insulators. All covers feature RIB-GRIPconstruction to lock to the underside of the insulators. Thelarge diameter arm overlaps the small arm of the adjoin-ing cover on double arm constructions which providescomplete insulation at the joint regardless of the varyingdistance between pins.

Conventional Dead End Protectors cover 4.25” and 6”bells including conductor and hardware and are madefrom orange Type II SALCOR with RIB-GRIP construc-tion. Series 101 has outer ribs that allow it to be used with2” and 2.5” I.D. Conventional Line Hose when using theUC-2 Connector. The Smaller Series 114 may also be usedto cover transformer bushings up to 4.75” in diameter.Replacement Straps are available.

To work on live lines safely, conductors encased in a linehose should never be placed directly on a cross arm.Orange Type II SALCOR Cross Arm Covers reduceelectrical stresses on line hose or jumpers. Cross ArmCovers fit standard cross arm pin spacing and each unithas interior ribs to minimize shifting on the arm.

Flexible Cutout Covers, Made from Type II orangeSALCOR corona resistant elastomer, can be used foroverhead cutouts as well as for underground pad-mountapplications. Cutout Covers comply with the currentASTM D1049 specifications.

Pole GuardsPole Guards are installed before setting new poles toguard against accidental line contact. They also guardagainst pole contacts by personnel working in insulatedaerial buckets or on platforms. Pole Guards are madefrom orange thermoplastic, Type I ABS, cold weather, high impact plastic, Grade III. Salisbury Pole Guardsfeature the unique Air Gap design. Uniformly spaceddimples minimize the amount of surface area contactingthe pole. This provides added insulation to keep electrical

leakage to a minimum. When two poleguards are used to cover longerlengths, the air gap dimples nesttogether “locking” the two togetherwith ample overlap. The Air Gapdesign also allows for air flow betweenit and the pole minimizing moisturecondensation and contaminationbuildup.Pole Guard use should be limited tobrush contact. The opening shouldface away from possible line contacts, whenever possible. Pole Guards shouldbe stored indoors to avoid prolongedexposure to UV rays and should be

cleaned with awarm detergentsolution.

Versa and Link GuardsVersa and Link Guards make use of air as well as thedielectric strength of plastic to provide total insulatingvalue. Both guards are 7” in diameter and have a hookshaped inner lip to keep the guard in place.

Versa Guards, with a voltage rating of 34.5kV, aredesigned so that two guards can be telescoped together tocover most 13kV single and double arm, pin and postconstructions. A lighter 47” version of the standard 4.5’Versa Guard is available in a TypeIII PPO material. These guards cannest together in a compartment 4’long.Link Guards, with a voltage ratingof 69kV, have inner and outer shellsthat run full length to include maleand female couple ends. Two guardsconnected provide for overlappingthickness of plastic plus air at ajoint.

Tee Connectors are used on hori-zontal and vertical posts andsuspension insulator strings whenplastic line guards are used on theconductor. Made from Type I, ABSplastic with eye fittings, the connec-tor accommodates the male end of aguard. Available in two ratings:69kV and 46kV. Accepts 34.5kV pininsulators along with post andinsulator strings. 2475

Lineman’s GlovesSelecting the right size, length and style. Lineman’sgloves are available in a full range of sizes from 8 through12, including half sizes. Proper fit is important to mini-mize chafing and fatigue. To determine glove size, measure the circumference of the hand between the thumband index finger and add one inch. Allow for additionalroom if fabric glove liners are to be worn, especially withthermal liners.

Class 0 and 00 gloves are available in 11 and 14 inchlengths. Class 00 Electrical Insulating Rubber Glovesare made from either red Type I natural rubber or blueType II SALCOR. Both are extremely flexible to makeworking with small parts easy. The gloves meet or exceedASTM D120 and EIC 903 Standards. Store gloves in acontainer exclusively for them and clean with Salcocleaner. Dust with 10-4 glove dust when dry.

Class 1 through 4 gloves are available in the industrystandard colors of yellow, red and black, or in contrastingtwo color combinations. The contrast between the thinouter color against the inner color makes inspecting forcuts and tears easier, when the glove is inflated orstretched. Class 0 gloves are available in yellow, red andblack.

Class 1 through 4 gloves are available in 14, 16 and 18inch lengths. A straight cuff is standard on 14” & 16”gloves.

For 18” gloves either a straight or controur cuff isavailable. A contour cuff is angled to prevent bunching orbinding at the elbow when the arm is bent. Designate SCfor straight cuff or CC for contour cuff.

A bell cuff, which accommodates heavier winter clothing,is available for Class I through 4 gloves. Bell cuff glovesare not available in sizes 8 or 8.5H.

Linemen’s SleevesRubber Insulating Sleeves extend coverage of the armfrom the cuff of rubber insulating gloves to the shoulder-fully protecting these areas from accidental contact withenergized conductors and equipment. Sleeves feature areinforcing fold at the cuff. This fold is preferred over arolled bead because it adds less bulk to the cuff and fitsinto the glove easier without pushing. Two differentprocesses are used to manufacture insulating sleeves:dipping and molding. Both meet the current require-ments of ASTM D1051 and offer the same high level ofquality and protection.Dipped Sleeves are manufactured in the same way asrubber insulating gloves, Porcelain forms are dipped intoliquefied rubber, dried, trimmed, marked and cured.Every sleeve receives the same quality inspections andelectrical testing before shipping. Dipped sleeves areavailable in the same colors as dipped gloves, includingtwo color combinations.

Curved Arm

Straight ArmMolded Sleeves are manufactured by either injection orcompression molding methods. The advantage thesemethods offer is the ability to produce sleeves of Type I orSALCOR Type II synthetic rubber. SALCOR sleevesprovide the same high quality and electrical protection asnatural rubber, with the added benefit of being resistant toozone and ultraviolet radiation. Type I sleeves areavailable in black, yellow, or maroon. Type II SALCORsleeves are black or orange. Molded Sleeves are availablein curved arm style only.
