The modular system covers the performance range from 0.12 to 1,200 kW. In conjunc-tion with the SINUMERIK solution line, the SINAMICS S120 is already the perfect basis for modular plant and machine concepts in the performance range up to 300 kW. The standardized, integrated engineering tools substantially reduce engineering costs.
Distributed and flexible designs
Integrated communications via DRIVE-CLiQ enables flexible, distributed machine concepts. The individual compo-nents can be installed in a distributed lay-out up to 100 m apart from one another. In user solutions with a higher number of motion axes in the machine kinematics, the basic system units can be expanded with the SINUMERIK NX10 / NX15 expan-sion components in order to increase the drive-end computer performance.
DRIVE-CLiQ: the digital interface between all drive components
All SINAMICS S120 components, inclu-ding the motors and encoders, are con-nected to each other by the common serial interface known as DRIVE-CLiQ. All components have an electronic rating plate incorporating all the relevant tech-nical data. This data is automatically recorded by the SINUMERIK control module via DRIVE-CLiQ and does not have to be input during commissioning or exchange (Plug & Run). This considerably reduces com-missioning time.

1FK7 servomotors for standard applications
The 1FK7 series of synchronous servomo-tors have proven themselves as the stan-dard for motion control tasks. They require little space for fitting and are characterized by a high power/weight ratio, high dyna-mics as well as a favorable torque/moment of inertia ratio. They also offer a plug system with freely rotatable line direction and have a high degree of protection. The static torques of the motors lie between 0.18 and 48 Nm. Their rated speeds range between 2,000 and 6,000 rpm.
The right motor for every feed drive
Whether high static torques or rated powers, high maximum
speeds or dynamics, air- or water-cooled, linear or rotary
motions – our comprehensive range of motors offers the
right type for every drive task across a wide performance
range. These include synchronous and asynchronous servo-
motors, as well as highly innovative linear and rotary direct
drives.
12
1FT7 servomotorsfor high-performance applications
The new 1FT7 synchronous servomotors feature excellent concentricity and are designed for use in demanding machine tool manufacturing scenarios. The mo -tors cover rated speeds from 1,500 to 6,000 rpm and static torques from 2 to 120 Nm. They are extremely compact and feature a newly developed encoder coupling. This provides the encoder with a high level of protection against sudden loading. These new motors have a cross profile that facilitates easy mounting even from the back. At the same time, a rotatable plug with a quick lock simpli-fies connection and cable routing in all mounting positions for shorter mounting and service times.
1FW6 torque motor
Siemens torque motors are ideally suited for extremely high-torque rotary axes and they can be integrated directly into the machine. They work with maximum preci-sion and dynamics as they avoid elasticity and play in the drive train. Total weight and frictional forces have been minimized. They are also characterized by their high availability as they have no wear-prone transmission elements.
Another advantage is that they require little space due to their compact design and small number of components. The 1FW6 torque motor is the first choice for installation in rotary indexing machines, rotary tables, swivel and rotary axes, spindle machines, dynamic tool magazines and main spindles in milling machines. The torque motors offer torques ranging up to 8.570 Nm.
1FN3 linear motor
The main advantage of linear direct drive technology is the extensive avoidance not only of elasticity, play and frictional effects, but also natural oscillations in the drive train. This allows for maximum dynamics and precision in Motion Control. In combina-tion with the SINAMICS S120, we offer you a drive system that optimally covers all machine tool manufacturing require-ments. Our 1FN3 series of linear motors are characterized by the highest traversing speed of up to 800 m/min, extremely high dynamics and outstanding precision. They have IP65 degree of protection and enable maximum forces up to 20,700 N. In addi-tion, they do not have any transmission elements such as ball screws, couplings or belts.

1PH7 motors –rugged and low-maintenance
The air-cooled, four-pole asynchronous 1PH7 motors with cage rotors are used in small compact machine tools, complex machining centers and turning machines. Their performance ranges from 3.7 to 100 kW. The maximum speeds range up to 12,000 rpm.
1PH4 motors –water-cooled for tough conditions
Compact, water-cooled 1PH4 motors are recommended everywhere where extreme environmental conditions make air-cooling impractical. They have a high power/weight ratio and constantly low temperature values. The coupled mecha-nical systems are not thermally stressed as even the flange is cooled. The perfor-mance of these motors ranges from 7.5 to 65 kW, the maximum speed is 12,000 rpm.
Main spindles of turning, milling and grinding machines can be driven
in many different ways such as by belt drive, hollow-shaft motor, built-in
motor or integrated motor spindle. Cutting performance, manufacturing
accuracy and availability of the main spindle drive make a major contri-
bution to the machine’s productivity. This is where motor spindles are
clearly on the rise. Their advantages include their very high maximum
speeds and their extremely low susceptibility to vibration. The result:
high productivity and surface quality.
Main spindle motors for high-performance machine tool applications
Asynchronous main spindle motors
14
1PM4 and 1PM6 motors with hollow shafts
1PM4 and 1PM6 motors have been spe-cifically designed for direct mounting on mechanical spindles. The hollow, drilled shaft enables cooling lubricant to be fed to interior-cooled tools. Their perfor-mance ranges from 3.7 to 27 kW and the maximum speeds of both versions range up to 18,000 rpm. The air-cooled 1PM6 motors are rugged and nearly mainte-nance-free, four-pole squirrel-cage induc-tion motors with a performance ranging from 3.7 to 22 kW. When used in modern machines, liquid-cooled 1PM4 motors maintain constantly low temperatures despite having a high power/weight ratio.
Asynchronous built-in motors
1PH2 motors for direct drive
The 1PH2 built-in motors are liquid-cooled, three-phase asynchronous. They are used for applications where the motor must be integrated into the machine based on the compact design. The smooth, precise
running of the spindle, even at the lowest speeds, ensures that the workpiece is machined to the highest accuracy and without the effects of transverse drive forces. Their performance ranges from 7.5 to 30.9 kW.
Synchronous built-in motors
Synchronous main spindle motors:highly dynamic and extremely compact
1FE1 built-in motors are compact, water-cooled synchronous motors which are supplied as components: stator and rotor. Their maximum speeds range up to 40,000 rpm with a performance range up to 104 kW (S1 mode), and are offered in the main variants high-torque and high-speed. Permanently-excited motor spindles (PE spindles) increase the power/weight ratio and cost-effectiveness of CNC machines. They are used where the shortest ramp-up times are required and the highest demands are also placed upon machining quality, accuracy and smooth running.
Motor spindleswith high control dynamics
Motor spindles are characterized by their rigid, compact construction, extremely high power/weight ratio coupled with re duced weight and lower frictional forces. There are no additional transmission ele-ments such as belts or gears. This enables the shortest machining times and high control dynamics. The direct measurement of the spindle position and speed gives you high machining accuracy.
In our portfolio, we have the following series:• Standardized motor spindles for milling
machines – for use in vertical and hori-zontal machine designs
• Motor spindles for milling, drilling, turning and grinding technologies
• Motor spindles that we develop speci-fically to individual customer specifica-tions

Intelligent fire safetywith Sinorix al-deco STD
Extinguish fire quickly and safely
The Sinorix al-deco STD extinguishing unit is based on a pneumatic system for detecting a fire and triggering the extinguishers. That means the system is impervious to technical interference and able to detect and extinguish fires without any electrical power whatsoever. To enable this, a system of tubing is laid in the interior of the machine tool. This tube is referred to as Lifdes™ (Linear Fire Detection Source) and, under pressure, acts as a linear fire sensor that breaks at temperatures greater than 110 degrees Celsius. If there is a loss of pressure in the tube, an attached valve triggers the extinguishing mechanism. For compre-hensive monitoring, all safety-related functions are monitored online; unusual events are signaled acoustically and with a visual display. These functions, along with the operating data, are automati-cally recorded in long-term memory and can be retrieved via a USB interface.
Sinorix al-deco STD –advantages at a glance:
• Maximum operational reliability thanks to unpowered operation
• Online-monitoring as well as alarm signal in the event of a fire
• Comprehensive monitoring based on recordings of safety-related data
• Data accessibility via USB interface• Appropriate operational maintenance
