Our return to God for Blessings onSunday, October 7, 2018

Stewardship Thought: “So out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.” (Genesis 2:19)

The creation story reminds us of two important points. First, since the start, God has put the entire world into our care. Second, stewardship has been around since the beginning of mankind, it isn’t something recently invented by the Church. Just as past generations built our Church, it is now our responsibility to continue to nurture and develop these gifts for future generations.

HURRICANE FLORENCE / TYPHOON MANGKHUT DONATIONS

Hurricane Florence has made landfall in the Carolinas. Catholic Charities USA is asking for donations to help with disaster response. Catholic Charities USA is the official domestic relief agency of the U.S. Catholic Church. CCUSA deploys disaster response experts to support local Catholic Charities agencies in their work providing direct assistance to affected communities and identifying long term recovery needs. The disaster response team along with the local knowledge and expertise of agencies throughout the United States and its territories, is mobilizing quickly and effectively in an emergency to aid those experiencing or recovering from disaster. Catholic Charities supports disaster response efforts with direct aid, home repair, home rebuilding, health care services and other programs that enable long-term disaster recovery.

Please make donations to Catholic Charities and on the memo line write Hurricane Florence Relief. Send the donation to Catholic Charities, 144 West Wood Street, Youngstown, OH 44503. 100 % of all monies collected go to the disaster relief. Please pray for the people affected by Hurricane Florence.

On September 15, Typhoon Mangkhut, made landfall on the Philippine island of Luzon with sustained winds of 125 miles per hour and gusts in excess of 155 miles per hour. Over 250,000 people were directly affected by the storm, with more than 150,000 temporarily displaced. Many communities still do not have power, and road access is limited. Immediate priorities include assistance with food, water, bedding and road clearance. CRS is working with local partners and Caritas Philippines to provide emergency assistance. CRS staff are on the ground in the most severely impacted provinces in North Luzon. CRS has allocated an initial $50,000 for this emergency, and staff will conduct a market assessment to determine the most effective response in collaboration with local partners.

Please make donations to Catholic Charities and on the memo line write Typhoon Mangkhut Send the donation to Catholic Charities, 144 West Wood Street, Youngstown, OH 44503. 100 % of all monies collected go to the disaster relief. Please pray for the people affected by Typhoon Mangkhut.

World Mission Sunday October 21: Every year the needs of the Catholic Church in the Missions grow – as new dioceses are formed, as new seminaries are opened because of the grow-ing number of young men hearing Christ’s call to follow Him as priests, as areas devastated by war or natural disaster are rebuilt, and as other areas, long suppressed, are opening up to hear the message of Christ and His Church. That is why the involvement and commitment of Catholics from around the world are so urgently needed. Offerings from Catholics in the United States, on World Mission Sunday and throughout the year, are combined with offerings to the Propagation of the Faith worldwide. Additionally , within our Dioceses of Youngstown this collection supports the Black and Indian Mis-sion Office of the United States Conference of Catholic Bish-ops, as well as Catholic Home Missions. For many years, our diocese has received generous grants from both of these offices for our use to further our evangelization mission locally. Enve-lopes are in the our envelope packets to make a donation to World Sunday Mission. Pope Francis explains that “life is a mission,” “Each one of us is called to reflect on this fact: ”I am a mission on this Earth; that is the reason why I am here in this world’

Priesthood Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, is a special day to hon-or priesthood in the United States. To specifically honor priests, without whom the Holy Sacraments could not be conferred, for a single day out of the year during which they tirelessly serve their parishes. This is one day when we can make it a point to make priests feel truly appreciated and special.
