7 Tips for Preventing Tooth Loss
If you want to keep your pearly whites long after you turn 50, you better follow these seven tips!
1. Eat nutritiously.
Having a well-balanced diet is an important part of maintaining healthy teeth. Make sure you consume lots of calcium and vitamin C to keep your teeth strong. If you eat sugary foods (who doesn’t?), try to brush your teeth right after.
2. Don’t smoke.
Smoking is bad for more than just your lungs. It affects the blood supply that goes to your gums, which can increase your risk for gum disease. Smoking also turns your teeth an unattractive, grayish color.
3. Don’t clench or grind.
Grinding and clenching your teeth wears both your teeth and your gums down. Learn how to properly manage stress so that your teeth don’t get the brunt of your anxiety.
4. Visit your dentist regularly.
Setting up regular dentist appointments and sticking to them will keep your teeth healthy and strong. When you go to the dentist, you’ll get your teeth cleaned and you’ll get checked for oral cancer.
5. Brush and floss every day.
Although this one is obvious, not very many people do it. You must brush at least twice a day and floss once a day. When you neglect to make this a habit, you let plaque build up and take over your mouth, which ultimately leads to tooth loss.
6. Take care of chronic disease.
If you suffer from a chronic disease like diabetes, make sure you take extra care of your teeth. Diabetes makes it harder for your body to fight off infections and heal wounds. Dental checkups and great oral hygiene are the solution to such a problem.
7. Start early.
Don’t wait until you’re 18, 30, or 50 to start doing all these things. You should develop good oral hygiene habits at a young age, and you should teach your children to do the same.
The sooner you learn how to take good care of your teeth, the better off and stronger your teeth will be.
Your Teeth Aren’t Invincible
When you’re young, it’s easy to think you’ll never have to worry about losing your teeth or having serious dental problems.
Unfortunately, if you think your teeth are immune to decay and dental problems, that’s exactly what you’re going to get.
Don’t think your teeth are invincible. They aren’t. Be smart. Brush and floss and don’t do things you know could harm your teeth.
