7 steps to conduct remote prototype testing in the design phase
TRANSCRIPT
1What can be tested?
Decide what types of tests to conduct
Thanks to new tools for remote user testing, you can test any type of prototype,
high or low fidelity. The only requirement is to have a
well-thought-out idea anda list of things that need to be clarified and validated
about said idea.
Depending on the concerns you would like to address and the level of functionality of the
prototype you could test:
1. The organisation and categorisation of the information architecture (IA)
2. The overall concept or idea of the project (with lo-fi prototypes).
3. UI design, detailed navigation, copies, interaction etc. (with hi- fidelity prototypes).

Select a testing tool
Choosing the right tool for your team and company to conduct remote testing is key. To get the best results, it is important to be able to implement and conduct
your test in a simple and agile way; otherwise, the process will require
too much effort.

Create a test and obtain results
“If a picture is worth 1000 words,
a prototype is worth 1000 meetings”
Tom & David Kelley, Creative Brothers at IDEO
As soon as you have performed all of the previous steps and the tool meets the given requirements, implementing your test should be quick and easy. Create the study, make the prototypes accessible online, send invitations to the participants and wait
for the results.

Prepare the script and tasks for the test
The prototype test script will guide you and the participants through out the test. Make sure the tasks relate to your test objectives
and that the prototype’s level of detail is consistent with the proposed tasks.

Testing in the design phase drastically reduces costs, time, and negative impact on the perception of brand.
The more issues you detect early in the project and the faster you can solve them, the more you can substantially improve the quality of the final product
Follow these steps and enhance the design phase through testing.

How to decide when
to testThe moment to start testing depends on how much time
you want to spend on imagining user behaviour
before letting real users solve issues or eliminate doubts. So to be on the safe side:
The sooner users are involved, the better.

in a study in their natural context. There are many ways to reach them and with the help of remote testing techniques and
tools you can test anywhere, anytime!
