Production Process Evaluation

ResearchSurveys:• The strengths of the research are that it helped me see what was popular with my target audience and what would be the best

way to set it out, this also influenced how my images would look.• People may decide not to take the survey seriously. This means I am not going to get genuine answers, which means it doesn’t

help my project.

Interviews:• A strength of interviews is that it let me get more direct answers, which were helpful and informative. Feedback helped me

improve my work. The answers are often more complex.• A weakness of interviews is that people may not take the interview seriously. The interview may only consist of a few questions

which doesn’t mean I get as much information.

Experiments:• A strength of my work is that it is very detailed and has a lot of very powerful images that are emotive. • Weakness of experiments means I could spend too much time on a specific piece of work.

Pre-existing Products• A strength is that it is easy to look at and analyse pre-existing products, so I can see what is successful and look at how it is

made and put together so it gives me a good indication of what to do. • The weakness of the research is that I didn’t do as much as I wanted to, I wish I had done more research as I feel that if I had

more time I would have got more ideas together on how to produce the work. The effect of this on my work is that the end product hasn’t been as well developed as I would have liked it to be

Page 4: 7. evaluation

PlanningPre-Production:• The strengths with my project planning are that I knew what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it . This

helped me keep on track with my designing so I knew what I was doing and the route I wanted my work to take.

• I think this helped produce a strong group of final images as they were all strongly linked with the theme of conflict

Proposal document:• I feel the strengths of my document is the level of detail I included about my practical pieces of work.• I feel that I could have spent too much time on the proposal, which in turn does not help me produce the

final piece of work.

Schedule:• I would have liked to do a bit more planning around timescales so that I could make my images better and

make them look more polished and professional as I would have been able to achieve this had I had more time.

• The effect of this lack of planning means that some of my final images are rougher than I would have wanted them to be.

Time Management

I felt that I used my time well overall, although I feel that I would have liked to have produced more experiments specifically looking at style and colour. I would have also liked more time to work on my final images.I feel that this would have made my final images more successful as I would have then had a complete pallet of colours to work with and a more cohesive style that would have flowed through all the images. Also I would have liked extra time on my final images as this would have given me time to refine the final product and make them look more professional and polished.

Page 6: 7. evaluation

Target Audience Appeal• It has a lot of conflict and war in it this will appeal to my target audience because this is what the audience is interested in.

This should also interest there is also a lot of variation in the time periods as one image has the Vietnam War, Medieval Battle and a nuclear blast in it (see below) .

• Some of the images are of a single solders these are very graphic and have a comic book quality that should appeal to the age range of 15-44 of my target audience as this age range are interested in comic book style graphics & films (see above).

• The colours of the images will appeal to my audience because the colours I have used are suited to boys/men as they are very bold, graphic and hard edged echoing the unpleasantness of war (see below).

Page 7: 7. evaluation

Target Audience Appeal• My audience will like the images as they have a lot to do with conflict and war boys/men are interested in this subject an example of

this is most men watch war films and buy war based video games and like the gritty reality of war and the uniforms and apparel (below left).

• My images do not really have any specific characters so I don’t know if my audience will like it as much with out main character to focus on. My work is more about the message of war never changing and conflict which should appeal to people who have a social conscience and realise that wars will always happen as its part of the human condition and people who for that same reason have lost hope in the human race (below right).

• I think are entertaining and powerful which is what I set out to create and also thought provoking like the image of the soldier with the skull implying that he is already dead (see below)

Page 8: 7. evaluation

Technical QualitiesBoth mine and the other images have some things in commen like how there both rotoscope and filter gallery and both have filter gallery Both have colorization of world war 1And both have images to do with dark souls

When colorizing images, importantTo get it both factual and accurate

Page 9: 7. evaluation

Aesthetic Qualities

The strengths of this image is that it shows war through the ages and that whilst technology changes wars are still fought

I like this image a lot and feel that it was very creative in that I have merged together 3 images to produce one image. I like how I have used multiple time periods together and created one cohesive product around my theme.

I think that with this image I could have made the battle scene at the bottom clearer for the viewer I would have done this using filter gallery

I used a black and white palette to make this image stark and graphicwhich I like I feel it gives Atmosphere to this image.

This is not the only image of this kindas I have produced more like this I just Chose this to represent combined Images.

I like how well these Time periods have mergedTogether in this image

I think this is a interesting image for the viewer because as you view it you notice the historicalInconsistencies

Meaning is ‘War Never Changes’ different times but still at war

Page 10: 7. evaluation

Aesthetic Qualities

I feel that this is a creative image because I have taken an image and reduced it down to a graphic image that is still readable by the viewer and it has a nice graphic novel feel to it.

I like this image because as it is one of my favourite rotoscopes because it has lots of detail despite it being a heavily rotoscoped image.

I would like to Improve this image by tidying up theedges by going over them again . This would make the image more refined and polished.

The strength of this image is that its boldand very graphic its weakness however is that Whilst it’s a soldier its not part of a actual battle Scene.

I like the colours used in thisImage as they give a feeling Of power and strength.

This is not the only image of this kind as I have produced more like this I just Chose this to represent Rotoscope

What I like about this image is that its simplfyed by also Retains interesting detail

I think this will appeal to my audience because it’s a strong hero figure & historical/fantasy image

This image evokes the Feeling of a lone heroic Soldier almost a superhero

Page 11: 7. evaluation

Aesthetic QualitiesI like the way my image looks as the grainy quality lends itself to the subject and gives a feel of WW1. I also likeContrast of the blue sky against the brown of the trenches.

Whilst I like the image IFeel that it is not as creative as my other images as it is just a simple colourization.

I like the hyper realisation on the colours usedAs it makes the image although changed little more graphic which my audience should like.

I would have liked to improve the colours used and overlay with lots more detail as I enjoyed putting colour onto a Black and white image to make it lookmodern

The strength is that itIs a great image to work With its weakness is That I haven’t worked onThis image more

This is not the only image of this kindas I have produced more like this I just Chose this to represent Colourization

I like how with colour added to a black and white image it gives it a 3d quality that my audienceShould appreciate and Also the subject matterww1

I think the meaning of this image is that it history feels more relevant to us now in colour and at first glancy this could be happening now‘war never changes’

Page 12: 7. evaluation

Aesthetic QualitiesI like this piece of work as I like the style, it looks as though it is fading away in time andwill end up being just be a memory consigned to history.

I would improve thiswork by spending more time on it as this is just A simple filter gallery Image. I would like to have used colour andRotoscope on it, maybealso overlaying another image from anothertime period behind it asa background.

I think I could havebeen more creativeand merged imagestogether

Its strength is that itgives a real feel ofthe grittiness of war but Its weakness is that it is too simple

This is not the only image of this kindas I have produced more like this I just Chose this to represent Filter Gallery

I think my audience will like the heavy war machinery (tanks ) used in this image. Very male Area of interest.

I think this image conveys The relentlessness of war, these men who risked Their lives just fade from memory Young lives wasted.

Peer Feedback

Page 14: 7. evaluation

Feedback 1• What did you like about the product?• I like how visually interesting these images of war and blood

shed are. The use of colour and black and white grain matches the mood the tone and the time period very well.

• What improvements could have been made to the product? I am not sure I can improve anything with this piece of work. 10/10 IGN

Page 15: 7. evaluation

Feedback 2

• What did you like about the product?• I like how you used the features inside the Filter Gallery.

• What improvements could have been made to the product?

• The outlines on your rotoscope are very rugged. I think your work would look better if the outlines were smoother.

• In some of the rotoscopes you didn’t trace over the outlines properly, which has left black gaps

Page 16: 7. evaluation

Feedback 3• What did you like about the product?– All the images are impactful to show the difficulties of war and

has modern and medieval attires within, all have a simple look and not to much cluttering it.

• What improvements could have been made to the product?– I would recommend to change some because some are rather

difficult to see the image and maybe use some other techniques for the image or maybe look up tutorials.

Page 17: 7. evaluation

Peer Feedback Summary

• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?– Yes it is very helpful and shows me what I have to work

on for example making the images more easy to understand as I want the images to be clear enough to understand the subject of the image. Also to refine my rotoscoped work.

• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?

- I wanted some of the images to look more rugged as it was a very graphic look I was going for in my work.

Page 18: 7. evaluation

Peer Feedback SummaryI feel that on the whole my Peer feed back was positive with all the viewers as most found my images very impactful and strong, which is what I was attempting in this project. Most liked the graphic style and content of the work and realised that the content of the images was about war and conflict. One reviewer specifically liked the style of the work noting they liked how I had used the features inside the filter gallery. But further to the feedback I would probably make the following changes – I would make all images clearer so the content was easy to understand

which would make the underlying message in my work stronger.– Look Up tutorials as this will help improve my work and take it to a

higher standard.– I would refine the images and trace over the edges better when

rotoscoping to ensure there where no black gaps left behind as that will give my work a more finished/polished look.
