Put this visual splendour together with four of
Australia’s doyens of photography and you are in for
an amazing 4 days. Everything will revolve around
the light and we will take you to some spectacular
locations to make amazing images.
Join us on an incredible boat trip to the edge of the
wilderness to photograph spectacular sea cliffs,
hopefully we will see some seals, dolphins and
perhaps even a whale.
Be treated to a doors-off helicopter flight to make
beautiful landscape images of Bruny’s spectacular
coastline from a new perspective. Coupled with
hands-on experience using drones makes for a great
aerial photography day.
In between shoots, we will look at various aspects
of photography, play with some awesome gear and
learn from each other.
If you were to head south across the Great Southern
Ocean, the next land is the Antarctica - this really is
the edge of the world!
Bruny Island is a photographer’s paradise - rugged landscapes, beautiful beaches and amazing light combine to offer the photographer a never ending smorgasbord of potential images..
Four days of photographers bliss!!
Bruny BunchThe
BRUNY ISLAND WORKSHOPS
Bruny Island has some of Tasmania’s most
beautifully preserved natural environments with
abundant wildlife and stunning cliff top views.
The island is about 50 km long but appears to be
two islands with North and South Bruny joined by
a narrow strip of land called The Neck.
A highlight is South Bruny National Park, with
towering cliffs overlooking long sandy beaches,
coastal heathland, and underwater gardens of
kelp seaweed with some amazing bushwalks to
take it all in. The island is also a haven for many
rare and endangered plants and animals.
Bruny Island
Exploring Bruny can be as quick and easy as
taking a spectacular half-day boat cruise around
the island, though a longer stay reveals the many
secrets of this special place.
Bruny Island is accessed via a 20-min crossing
on vehicular ferry from Kettering, around a 35-min
drive south of Hobart. The service runs seven days
a week.

BREAKAWAY
Sea cliffs, tidal flats and a rugged coastline all add up to an amazing opportunity to make
beautiful landscapes from a new perspective.
With a wealth of experience between them, your instructors will take you through every aspect
of shooting from the air, with drones and with helicopters. We will be looking at all aspects of
working from the air, from how to work safely through to how to ensure that the images you
make are sharp and well composed.
You will have the opportunity to put all your class room learning into practice with a doors off
helicopter flight around some of the spectacular Bruny Island coastline. As we will only be
sending a few people up at a time in the helicopter, the rest of us will spend time closer to the
ground making images using drones.
A great day which is sure to result in
some awesome images from a totally
fresh perspective.
A Day of Aerial Photography
Cruise alongside some of Australia’s highest sea cliffs, beneath towering crags and drift up
close to listen to the awesome ‘Breathing Rock’. Enter deep sea caves, pass through the
narrow gap between the coast and ‘The Monument’ and feel the power of nature at the point
where the Tasman Sea meets the might of the Southern Ocean.
Join in the search for the abundant coastal wildlife such as seals, dolphins, migrating whales
and sea birds. The highly trained interpretive guides love what they do - they work hard to
ensure that the experience is fun, enjoyable, entertaining and informative.
The custom-built yellow boats are ideal for viewing the spectacular coastline and wildlife
of Bruny Island. Covered open-air tiered seating means an excellent all-round view and
connection with the environment.

BREAKAWAY
The first evening, we make sure everyone has
arrived, and have the bits and pieces that they
are going to need for the next few days. A casual
dinner and a chance to get to know each other,
ask questions, and get a feel for what we are trying
to achieve. It won’t be a late night because the
following morning we are straight into it with a shoot
at dawn. Landscape photography at any time of the
year is always subject to weather conditions, and
while there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad
choice in clothing, we still like to try and get the best
out of a given situation. To this end, we like to make
decisions on the run, and make our final decision
as to what we do and where we go on the day after
taking all the weather conditions into account.
Each day, we are out very early to capture sunrise;
during the day we will look at working on images,
answering questions and looking at ways to improve
your photography.
We always make time for good food and a chance
to look around this amazing part of the world before
What happens on the workshop? All our workshops generally follow a similar pattern to take advantage of the best light for photography and time
to work on images and ask questions.
Bruny BunchThe
BRUNY ISLAND WORKSHOPS
getting into position to shoot sunset. Each day we
will do our very best to put you into the best position
to capture some amazing images just when the light
is at it’s best.
In the evenings, we will be back to work on images,
discuss photography and enjoy some social time
with people who share a common passion.
It’s important to realise that you can make this
workshop as intensive or as relaxed as you like.
We will head out at sunrise every day, however if
your doona is talking to you and you decide to stay
snuggled into your bed for the morning, no one
will hold that against you (although you may feel a
bit disappointed when you see the images that the
others have made! )
On the final night, we will get together for a final
celebratory dinner, which will include a slideshow of
images that have been produced on the workshop.
By the final morning, we will be ready for a sleep in
before heading back to the real world.

Special Guest Speaker
Bruny Island in May will present us with an ever changing landscape to photograph. It’s going to be an awesome four days and we will be busy most of the time. In order for everyone to get the most out of our time together there are a couple of things that you can do to help.Timing is always the most critical, sunrise and sunset doesn’t wait for anyone and so neither can we. We will be planning our excursions so that we have you in a great location, set up and ready to go in plenty of time to catch all the changes of light, so we ask that you are on time, ready to go at the time we tell you. As well as going out to take pictures in some of the most photogenic locations in the country, we will be showing you how we go about working your images. Most of our post production work is done on Capture One and Photoshop, so if you don’t have it on your computer you can download a free 30 day trial.
We need your help
Cost$2950 per person/$2600 for AIPP members, past workshop participants and LNP members.
Non-photographer partners: If your partner would like to join us for some of the non-photographic
parts of the adventure such as meals, the boatride and a helicopter flight, we would be happy to tailor a
package to include as much or as little of the program as required. Please contact us for a quote.
IncludedIncludes 4 full days of photography,
Transfers from Hobart to Bruny Island and return,
Three hour boat trip on a purpose built cruise boat exploring the rugged coastline.
Doors-off helicopter flight to shoot aerial landscape images plus hands-on flying experience with drones. Meals:
4 x breakfast, 3 x lunches and 3 x evening meals, morning and afternoon tea each day.
Not IncludedAirfares to Hobart and return, any alcoholic beverages, personal snacks and extras.
Accommodation is not included. You will need to organise your own accommodation for this workshop,
however, we would recommend that you look at the following options:
Explorer Cottages - http://www.brunyisland.org.au/accommodation
Bruny Coastal Retreats - https://brunyisland.com.au/accommodation
They will also be able to help team you up with one of the other delegates to share accommodation if you would
like. If you decide to stay elsewhere, there are a wide variety of different accommodation options, in various price
ranges, on Bruny Island. You will be able to find something that suits your needs and budget, but depending on
location you may wish to consider your own transport.
TransfersWe will pick you up from Hobart on Sunday afternoon, and will drop you back to Hobart on Thursday
morning. If you want to spend longer on Bruny, all you have to do is organise your own travel and
accommodation, and let us know so that we are not waiting for you when you have already left in your own car.
