MYSTAGOGY OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK

“By the Sacred Anointing of the Sick and the prayer of the priests, the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that He may raise them up and save them. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is not only intended for those who

are at the point of death; it is also intended for those who are seriously ill, in danger of death due to illness or old age. Even if a sick person who receives this anointing recovers His health, he can still receive the Sacrament again in the case of another grave illness. In the past, this Sacrament was known as the Sacra-ment of “The Holy Oils”. Any faithful who is in danger of death may receive this Sacrament. But, are they the only ones who can receive this Sacrament? No. The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that the Sacrament of Anointing (also called ‘Unction’) may also be received by those who suffer from men-tal illness, addictions, depression or severe anxiety, those going into an operation or surgery, and those who suffer from chronic illnesses. Who can administer the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick? Only priests, including Bishops can ad-minister the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. This rite includes the laying on of hands and anoint-ing of oil on the forehead while praying for healing and mercy of sins. Following every Mass this weekend, our priests will be offering anointing for the sick. If you are ill and in need of prayer, it is important you take advantage of this opportunity to be anointed with the oil of the sick.

MISTAGOGIA DE UNCION DE LOS ENFERMOS

"Con la Sagrada Unción de los Enfermos y con la ora-ción de los presbíteros, toda la Iglesia entera enco-mienda a los enfermos al Señor sufriente y glorificado para que los alivie y los salve. El Sacramento de Un-ción de los Enfermos no es Sacramento solo para aquellos que están a punto de morir; se da a los que están seriamente enfermos, en peligro de muerte, sea por enfermedad o vejez. Si un enfermo que recibió la unción recupera la salud, pues, gloria a Dios! Mas si esa misma persona de nuevo cae en enfermedad gra-ve, puede recibir de nuevo este Sacramento. En tiem-pos pasados este era conocido como “Los Santos Óleos”. Cualquier persona de los creyentes que co-mienza a estar en peligro de muerte puede recibir este Sacramento. Pero ¿son ellos los únicos que pue-den recibir este sacramento? No. El Sacramento de unción se puede también dar a aquellos que sufren de una enfermedad mental, adic-ciones, depresión o tensión seria, o aquellos que se preparan para una operación o cirugía o los que su-fren de una enfermedad crónica. ¿Quienes son esos ancianos que pueden distribuir el Sacramento de los enfermos? Solo los sacerdotes (obispos y presbíteros) son ministros de Unción de los Enfermos. Estos mi-nistros imponen las manos y colocan el aceite sagrado en la cabeza del enfermo implorando sanación y per-dón por sus pecados. Después de cada Misa este mismo fin de semana, se ofrecerá unción para todos los enfermos. Es impor-tante aprovechar estas oportunidades para recibir la unción si estás enfermo.

Le sixième et dernier dimanche après Pâques nous ramène à la veille de la Passion et nous en donne le sens: "Comme le Père m'a aimé, moi aussi je vous ai aimés"; et plus loin: "comme je vous ai aimés, aimez-vous les uns les autres." En saint Jean, tous les commandements se résument clairement en un seul: celui de l'amour fraternel. Que les disciples de Jésus ressuscité s'aiment entre eux, "comme" le Père aime le Fils, et "comme" le Fils lui-même les a aimés. Selon l'évangile de dimanche dernier, le but de toute vie est de produire du fruit en abondance en restant uni à la vigne, et le fruit de cette union à la vigne dans l'amour mutuel est la joie: "Je vous ai dit cela pour que ma joie soit en vous, et que vous soyez comblés de joie." Il faut que tout être humain devienne source de joie dans l'affection sincère, mutuelle et fraternelle. Cet enseignement ne s'arrête pas à la solidarité qui réduirait l'horizon humain au seul horizon terrestre. L'amour dont parle Jésus vient de Dieu et il serait privé de sens s'il ne pouvait retourner ouvertement et explicitement à Dieu. Ainsi, comme l'amour de Dieu a voulu battre dans un cœur de chair, celui de son Fils bien-aimé, de la même manière l'amour humain tire désormais sa source et son achèvement dans le cœur de Dieu. En son Fils Jésus, le "Je vous aime" de Dieu a pris la forme d'une grande passion d'amour fou et infini: "Ayant aimé les siens qui étaient dans le monde, il les aima jusqu'au bout." (Jean 13, 1) C'est la gloire et la joie de Jésus d'avoir aimé sans mesure: "Voici mon corps livré pour vous. Voici mon sang versé pour vous. Vous ferez cela en mémoire de moi." L'amour enseigné par le fils de Dieu abolit la distinction entre maître et serviteur: "Je ne vous appelle plus serviteurs, car le serviteur ignore ce que fait son maître; maintenant, je vous appelle mes amis." Les rapports humains établis d'instinct sur la rivalité et la domination s'en trouvent entièrement transformés. Jésus a dit dimanche dernier: "Si vous demeurez en moi... demandez tout ce que vous voudrez, et vous l'obtiendrez." Le thème revient à la fin du texte d'aujourd'hui. Toute personne imprégnée de la Parole de Dieu et qui s'en nourrit chaque jour peut demander à Dieu ce qu'elle veut et être assurée de l'obtenir, car elle ne voudra rien qui ne soit ajusté à sa volonté.

For the convenience of parents, we have two sessions, one at 5:00 PM, the other at 7:00 PM, every Wednesday for a donation of $60.00 annually per student.
