The following apps were found using the iTunes App Store and intended for use with the iPhone and iPad.

Skitch

• This app allows students to upload images and manipulate them. They can also share their finished products.

• My math students would use this app to evaluate mathematical and real-world problems. Students would be able to utilize various files to solve the problems. They would be able to collaborate and present their work through email, text messaging, Facebook, and other apps.

• Advantages• Free

• Easy to use interface

• Import various files (maps, pdfs, webpages, images)

• Disadvantages• Cannot work on multiple projects

Study Blue • Advantages• Users can type their own terms and definitions

• Users can quiz themselves using a variety of formats

• Users can review according to their preference: definitions or terms

• Users can make a review sheet

• Users can arrange the flashcards in various ways: level of difficulty, least studied, shuffle

• Disadvantages• Users cannot easily connect to their schools to

share materials.

This app is great for studying essential vocabulary and key concepts. My students would use this app to help build fluency and to review for assessments. My students would use it individually as well as in small groups to quiz one another.

Show Me

• This app is great for student collaboration and creation. My math students would use this app to create whiteboard presentations. These presentations would then be used for review and teaching. Students would be able to access the presentations while they are away from school.

• Advantages• Free

• Easy to use interface

• Accessible even without iPad

• Save presentations as drafts to edit later

• Teacher can create a class account for students to submit their presentations.

• Message board with related presentations

• Disadvantages• Cannot edit audio

• Must start from beginning each time

Showbie

• Advantages• Record of students’ work

• Students can access it outside of school

• Teacher can create classes and assign students to them

• Upload files from various apps and programs

• Teacher can allow parents to access students’ work

• Disadvantages• Requires upgrading to pro for full access to features

This app allows students to submit their assignments electronically to the teacher. Teachers can upload different files and even add voice memos to them.

My students would use this app to submit assignments quickly.

Slack

• This app is awesome for cooperative learning activities. It helps to hold all members of the group accountable. My math students would use it to communicate and collaborate with one another.

• Advantages• Users must be invited to join a slack

team

• Users can message one another publicly or directly

• Disadvantages• Users have access to public and

private channels

Word Clouds

• This app is great for building vocabulary. My math students would use this app to learn and review essential math words and concepts. Students may either focus on math terms only or include their definitions. The arrangement of the words easily shows students which terms or phrases are emphasized for importance.

• Advantages• Free

• Easy to use interface

• User can change font, color, word count, and layout

• User can edit work at anytime

• Disadvantages• Work is only saved as a photo

Stop Motion

• This app is great for students to use as they let their creativity run wild. Students can create mini videos. They can take pictures and record audio within the app.

• My math students would use this app to demonstrate their knowledge of various mathematical concepts using manipulatives.

• Advantages • Easy to use interface

• Easy to edit work

• Sharable through Youtube, Dropbox, Instagram, Vine, Facebook, and many more apps

• User can print work

• Disadvantages• Advanced features requires upgrade

Math Chat

• This app is great for students to develop problem-solving and communication skills. It allows students to upload questions to message boards. Other users provide strategies for solving or answering the questions. Users are asked not to provide answers because the emphasis is on the individual understanding the process.

• My math students would use this app to help evaluate real-world and mathematical problems. I would also make my parents aware of the app so that they can help students with homework and review for assessments.

• Advantages• Easy to use interface

• Easy to upload or type in questions

• Rules and regulations are in place regarding communication

• Disadvantages• Users are of all ages

• Strategies are not guaranteed to work

• This app is great for solving computation problems. It provides the user with step-by-step solutions.

• My math students would use this app to quickly self-assess their mastery of their math skills. I would encourage parents to use it as well to help with homework.

• Advantages• Easy to use interface

• User can scan or type in problems

• User is provided with step-by-step solutions

• Disadvantages• Limited to computation problems

MyScript Calculator

• This app is great for students to use as they evaluate mathematical problems. They can simply use their fingers to write the problem on the screen, and within seconds the app provides a solution.

• My math students would use this to assess their evaluation of mathematical problems. I would also encourage parents to use this app to help students with homework and to review for assessments.

• Advantages• Easy to use

• Fast

• History of problems entered is kept for the user to access later

• Work is sharable

• Disadvantages• Limited to computation problems

• Advanced features requires upgrade
