SET UP AND CONFIGURATION The 6420 is a two channel digital termination unit that operates at all common speeds between 2,400bps and 64Kbps and supports asynchronous and synchronous operation. The unit is equipped with three push-button switches, accessed from the front of the unit, to provide configuration, installa-tion, and diagnostic assistance. An LCD display provides visual interface into the menu system as well as the operation of the unit. Among the operational displays are LED status simulations as well as both port and line utilization statistics.

INTERFACE AND OPERATION Both V.35 and RS-232 line signaling and connectors are provided on the rear of the unit for port 1. Port 2 is supported with a DB-25 RS-232 interface only. Limited Distance Modem operation is available on the 6420 with one unit configured with a master clock setting. At 56Kbps, depending upon wire gauge, the 6420 can operate error-free at up to ten miles distance.

SETTINGS AND DIAGNOSTICS Three pushbutton switches allow for easy management of the through port and line settings, selection of an operational display, and performing diagnostics. Diagnostics include Self-Test, Digital Loop, Local Loop, and Remote Loop. The unit can quickly isolate network faults and minimize network downtime. Even if the ports are accidentally misconfigured, a factory reset is as simple as pressing all three but-tons while powering up.

ELECTRICAL Electrical requirements are supplied by an external power transformer that accepts 117VAC and sup-plies 10VAC to the 6420. The electrical connection is therefore free from any dangerous voltages on the PC board itself. UL and CSA approvals exist for the power transformer separately from the unit. -48 and -130VDC versions are also available.

INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH The 6420 is packaged in an aluminum enclosure with steel front and rear panels, providing a durable enclosure for industrial environments. Front panel controls use dome switches protected by a polycar-bonate cover. We also offer high temperature and humidity enhancements.
