Special Projects

Many things are going on right now, trying to resume normal Guild events after last year’sshutdown.

One is that Irene Roderick is already working on organizing a BUS TRIP to Houston QuiltFestival this fall. Stay tuned for more info as things get finalized.

And June Lujan has agreed to make plans for FALL RETREAT in September. Registrationwill be limited to 24 participants in order to maintain safety protocols. So once registrationis opened up, don’t procrastinate or you may be left behind.

Final decisions are still pending, but Gift of Quilting looks like it will be cancelled again thisyear. There was a terribly meager response to the request for teacher proposals. Noteachers – no classes!

Second Chance Boutique and the Guild Challenge are also “iffy” until the pandemic isfurther behind us.

Once again we will organize efforts to support SAFE for the holidays. Residents there arealways in need of assistance as they often have to leave an abusive environment with justthe clothes on their backs and nothing more.

Baby Bundles

Baby Bundles Tops 500!!!

The Baby Bundles program distributed 510 finished quilts during the 2020-2021 fiscalyear. The program provided 170 quilts to each of the three agencies we serve:

Travis County Mom’s Place – provides lactation support to new mothers of all agesand economic status.Travis County Healthy Families – provides childcare training pre- and post-pregnancy for new mothers in Travis County’s welfare system. The Children’s Advocacy Center of Bastrop County – provides intervention andtherapeutic services to child abuse victims and their non-offending family membersto minimize the impact of abuse.

Thank you to the all the guild members who helped make this happen – by making quiltsfrom their stash, donating fabric, creating kits from donated fabric, sewing quilt tops fromkits, quilting, binding, and transporting Baby Bundles around town to keep the programgoing during COVID. If you have a quilt to donate, want to cut fabric for kits, or sew/quiltfor the program, please email [email protected] and let us know how you want tohelp.

Thank you for continuing to support the Baby Bundles Program!

Available Positions

QUILTFEST 2020 NEEDS YOU!

Quilters, we are a bit behind in our preparation for the 2022 Quiltfest. Don’t worry, thearrangements for the Palmer Events Center have been made along with the necessarydeposits.

But we haven’t chosen a raffle quilt! Why not? Because we don’t yet have Show Chairs todo so! Unfortunately, our former Chairs are no longer available to execute this veryexciting job.

Kelly Hogan has moved back to Washington state. Meghan Gerety has new priorities andwill do Entries and help the new Chairs.

So…could you be one of the Show Chairs? Choosing the raffle quilt is lots of fun but onlyone of the many balls to juggle in pulling off this big event. Do you enjoy working withothers? There are 35 Committee Chairs to whom to communicate many details. Do youhave the stamina to devote the whole week of QuiltFest itself? Don’t worry, you’ll havelots of help and the excitement will carry you along. Do you have pretty good technicalskills? Help is available if you’re willing.

Finally, are you moved to contribute to your Guild? This job keeps three Show Chairspretty busy, and gets busier as the months turn into weeks, then days. Your Co-Chairs willsupport you, Tomasita and I will support you, too, as you support AAQG.

Thanks for your consideration. Please call or e-mail me. 512-299-2654 [email protected].
