A second-time participant at GITEX, the company finds the event useful in terms of meeting new customers and creating effective leads for the business. “Most important of all, the event helps us to learn more from the market and helps us interact with our channel and end customers. The company’s main strategy going forward is to educate the channel. “As compared to our other major markets, we find that there is less awareness about NAS solutions and products here. Being the leader in NAS manufacturing, it is our responsibility to educate the market on how useful NAS products are. This will be our first strategy.”

Over and above this, the company plans to create more awareness about its offering to tap the potential regionally. “We will also have channel programmes that will enable reseller partners to make decent margins, which is a key issue in the regional channel,” adds Tu.

With businesses estimating losses of up to $60,000 every hour during IT system failures, data protection solutions that are relevant and replicable in diverse environments are crucial to dealing with market complexity. This was one of the main findings of a survey realized by the International Data Corporation (IDC) for Acronis, a data protection vendor.

The study was a cross-industry survey of organizations that have up to 1,000 employees, commonly referred to as small and medium sized businesses (SMBs). Over 400 respondents from eight countries responded on their evolving data protection and disaster recovery needs.

“In businesses across the world today, data—whether information related to customer records, company finances, software applications and

even company emails—is paramount,” said Guurprit Ahuja, Acronis’ Director for Middle East and Africa, on the sidelines of GITEX Technology Week 2014. “And because we are living in an increasingly dynamic world with ever-expanding volumes of data, there are plenty of challenges for managing, protecting and securing this resource.”

The survey found that an increasing number of organizations are dealing with the simultaneous needs to

back up physical, virtual and cloud environments, and this is giving rise to different models of cloud backup adoption across the globe.

“While 94 per cent of SMBs in the United States cite the cloud as a data backup option, the global adoption of cloud sits at 65 per cent,” continued Ahuja. “Companies in regions such as Western Europe and Asia Pacific cited security as a major reason against integrating cloud managements systems into their networks. And while there have been some major cloud security breaches in the recent past, cloud-based solutions will be an integral part of combined backup systems in the near future. An obvious focus for solution providers will be to build intelligent, flexible and easy-to-use software to manage all of these challenges.”

In addition, Cisco’s innovation in optical transceiver technology using its 40G BiDi transceivers allows for the reuse of current 10G cabling to reduce costly fiber upgrades and provides a clear roadmap for upgrades to 100G.

Huawei has unveiled an advancement to its Agile Network solution helping local businesses and governments to achieve operational excellence through more agile service innovation.

The Middle East launch forum was held at GITEX Technology Week under the theme of “Weaving the Future” and included keynotes from industry experts such as Liu Shao Wei, President of IP Solutions at Huawei Enterprise, Paul Black, Director of Telecoms and Media for Middle East, Turkey & Africa at IDC, as well as numerous channel partners and end-users in attendance.

Since its global rollout in 2013, Huawei’s Agile Network has been deployed by over 200 partners in the fields of government, finance, healthcare, education and more. The latest unveiling of the Agile Controller—which forms part of the wider Huawei Agile Network solution—enables organizations to benefit from more orchestrated,

real-time connections between their services and their IT network.

“Over the last several years organizations across the Middle East have sought to overcome core business challenges posed by transformations in the wider ICT industry,” says Mark Wu, CTO of IP Solutions at Huawei. “With greater mobility in the workplace, the arrival of cloud computing and Big Data analytics, more prolific social networks, and the Internet of Things all placing huge demands on ICT systems, companies as well as governments are now quickly moving to future-proof their networks using solutions like the Agile Network.”
