‘Building a better connected world’ is the theme with which Huawei is participating at GITEX 2014. This continues to be its theme for the rest of 2014, says recently appointed Sanjay Sainani, Regional VP, IT Solutions, Huawei, Middle East.

The company has been looking at converging information and communication technologies and has also been focusing on its enterprise segment.

“Our core strategy at Huawei today is to develop the terminal, use the wired and wireless technologies, which is our legacy business and finally connect to the cloud.”

With this strategy in place, Huawei has also launched Oceanstor9000 storage solution at the event tomorrow. This will help regional organisations meet the rising demands of securing the mission critical assets, explains the company.

“The Huawei Oceanstor9000 high-end storage suite offers government entities, telecom operators and large businesses with unprecedented advantages in storage performance, scalability and cost,” adds Sainani.

Incident resolution solutions firm AccessData is exhibiting its ResolutionOne Platform at HP’s booth CLD-7, located in hall 6 of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), at GITEX Technology Week.

AccessData, in partnership with HP Enterprise Security Services will

be demonstrating how their cyber security solutions and services “minimise the damaging impact, risks and costs to enterprises”.

With the increase in major breaches across financial services, retail, energy and other industries, companies are investing millions of dollars to secure and keep would-be attackers out of their networks.

Security teams are faced with thousands of daily alerts using manual processes across multiple security point solutions that do not integrate. Incident-related data is disparate across solutions, endpoints and networks. The challenge remains as to how do organisations make sense of all this data and understand the context so they can intelligently respond and remediate quickly.

The Continuous, Automated Incident Resolution (CAIR) platform delivers the workflows and capabilities necessary to detect, analyse and resolve any data incident or breach across endpoints, networks and mobile devices.

John Bentley, Director, Middle East, Africa and India at AccessData says, “ResolutionOne Platform is a game changer in delivering comprehensive, real-time insight, analysis, response and resolution of data incidents. We are helping organisations achieve faster remediation from sophisticated cyberattacks and improved integration of their security solutions to minimise risk and avoid negative impact to the company and their customers.”

R&M celebrates 50th anniversary with strong GITEX offering

Ruckus Wireless appoints Al Jammaz as KSA VAD

R&M is not a newcomer to GITEX. For 16 years the Swiss structured cabling specialist has been building its presence in the Middle East, and for just as long, they have maintained a booth at the event.

On this, its 50th anniversary in business, R&M comes to Gitex with a suite of strong offerings for existing and potential customers. The company is here to demo its highly customisable portfolio of data centre, office cabling and FTTx products.

Now one of the leading cabling suppliers in the Middle East, Turkey and Africa, R&M is set to align its

solutions with the rapidly changing needs of the region. The company has a number of projects in the works in the region, including the finalisation of production in Saudi.

“One of the key trends fuelling the structured cable market in the Middle East is, simply put, investment,” explains Michel Riva, CEO, R&M. “Dubai, and the larger region, are investing heavily in infrastructure.” This translates to success in the region for R&M.

The company is seeing a change in cable adoption trends in the region as well. “We are seeing a move from

CAT6 cables to CAT6A cables,” says Riva. “We are also seeing a higher demand for shielded cables.” More than anything, says Riva, customers need information and flexibility and a vendor that is able to grow with them.

Growth is an important concept for R&M. “Customers need the right partner,” says Riva. “They need a solution that will still be valid in five or even ten years. They also need to be able to speak with an expert when they have an issue – not a person with general expertise, but an expert.”

Riva realises that the needs of consumers are not one-size-fits-all. “There is no longer a standard solution for cabling. Every project is different,” says Riva. Riva is absolutely confident that R&M will be a presence at Gitex for many years to come.

Ruckus Wireless has announced that Al Jammaz has been appointed as a Value Added Distributor (VAD) for Saudi Arabia.

Al Jammaz is a Saudi based IT company that distributes technology products, solutions and services in

larger customer base. “Al Jammaz has proved that they are a leading distributor in Saudi with 30 years of experience and, success, and an excellent relationship with resellers.

“Al Jammaz is an important partner for Ruckus and we are pleased to be able to cover the entire KSA region as part of the deal” added Al Ghalayini. “This partnership supports the Ruckus business strategy which consists of enhancing market access in this important region. Ruckus currently has a vendor and reseller (VAR) network of 90 partners with leading names including SBM, BTC, AWAL IT and BMNC among others.

“We view our appointment of Al Jammaz as a testament to our strong commitment to the region and look forward to working closely with them to increase our customer loyalty and benefit our business in the region.”

Ruckus is also conducting formal training programs for Al Jammaz in order to educate them and provide a clear understanding of Ruckus’s products so they can train vendors and resellers around the Kingdom.

“We are delighted to be working with such a respected supplier with a strong history of bringing new Wi-Fi products into the Saudi Arabian market,” said Asim Al Jammaz, Vice President and Owner at Al Jammaz Distribution. “We look forward to building a strong network of resellers with Ruckus are confident of increasing their market share in the region.”

the areas of networking, data and voice communications, computers, servers, storage, wireless mobility and broadband access.

Through the partnership, Al Jammaz will work with their team of resellers to create awareness for Ruckus in the region, fulfill orders through stock availability, manage events to educate resellers on Ruckus products and solutions and use their sales and technical capabilities to meet customer needs in the region.

According to Wassim Al Ghalayini, Regional Manager, KSA, Ruckus Wireless, the new partnership enables them to strengthen their position in the market and cater to a

Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has reduced backup storage consumption by 50% due to Veeam, having deployed Veeam Backup Management Suite.

DWTC has since achieved availability of its virtual environment and met recovery time and point objectives (RTPOs).

Established in 1979, the Dubai World Trade

Centre is the UAE’s largest purpose-built events and exhibitions complex. At the centre of the Middle East’s business tourism, each year the facility creates 25,000 jobs and attracts two million visitors.

With a continuous series of high profile events on the centre’s calendar, a robust IT infrastructure is a prerequisite. Round-the-clock operations also demand

unquestionable levels of availability, timely backups, and efficient use of storage space.

“We considered several solutions but only Veeam Backup Management Suite offered the scalability, flexibility and capacity planning capabilities we needed as a growing enterprise,” says Galal EItahan, Senior Manager, IT Operations, Information Technology, Dubai World Trade Centre. “Backup no longer creates an obstacle. Veeam’s solution provides availability of the entire virtual environment, performing ad hoc backups as often as we want,”

Veeam backs up every virtual machine (VM) in DWTC’s production and R&D environments to onsite storage daily. Veeam’s built-in deduplication and compression ensures that backups utilise half the storage that legacy backups required, which saves DWTC nearly US$5,500 each year. With Veeam meeting RTPOs is fast and easy. For example, Instant VM Recovery recovers a failed VM as well as operating system (OS) files and application from a regular backup in minutes.

The Saudi Telecom Company (STC) has extended its long-standing partnership with Ericsson to transform, expand and upgrade its network in Saudi Arabia.

The move is part of STC’s strategy to reach new horizons in the Networked Society and allows the company to optimise its network performance, scalability and integration using Ericsson’s state of the art technologies.

The partnership has enabled the launch of advanced high-speed mobile broadband technologies, providing high quality video delivery with assured quality of experience, catering for the high growth in demand for video and TV services in the Kingdom.

Under the new partnership, Ericsson will also establish an Experience Center that will bridge the gap between university academic knowledge and the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry requirements with a focus

effectively and securely leverage the benefits of technologies.

“This region is booming, which is a positive, but with more technology comes more potential security issues,” says Novikov. “There are more targeted attacks and emerging threats now.” To address these ever-changing threats, the company has come out with Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business. This platform delivers a broad array of tools and technologies to enable companies to see control and protect all endpoint devices. “What is great about KESB,” says Novikov, “is that it works across operating systems – iOS, Android, Windows – it doesn’t matter, we can protect you.”

Security is a hot topic in the region, with recent incidents sparking the debate on how best to protect businesses. “Though reports say 50 percent of CIOs in the region are primarily concerned with security, I believe that number should be even higher,” says Novikov.

Privacy is another issue that Novikov believes will continue to be on the minds of end-users everywhere. “Everyone should be concerned with protecting their data and maintaining their privacy,” says Novikov. “Everyone is coming up with new ways to do that, and I think that new methods will continue to be developed.”

Kaspersky Lab plans to be a presence at Gitex for many years to come. “Of course we will be back next year, we wouldn’t miss it!”

Dr. Khaled Biyari, Senior Vice President for Technology, Operations & IT, said, “At STC, we always seek to offer the very best customer experience. Partnering with Ericsson will support us to deliver high quality connectivity both indoors and outdoors while expanding coverage to rural areas in the Kingdom. We will also work jointly with Ericsson to develop and train our employees and students on technologies that already support STC’s business in Saudi Arabia aiming to fulfill the future demand for high calibers in the Saudi market.”

STC and Ericsson will further collaborate in testing and evolving advanced ICT technologies especially in the areas of small cells, indoor systems, and software-defined networking.
