GETTING THROUGH THE TOUGH TIMES “It’s going to get worse before it gets better” is a phrase that prepares us to buckle up for a rough ride. We know that enduring a difficult time will require some strenuous physical or emotional energy on our part be-fore we experience the calm of normality. Our past ex-perience tells us that we can endure the difficult pressure better when we know how long it will last and if we know that something better awaits us. Getting through the tough times while holding to the promise that awaits us is the message of this weekend’s readings. They point toward the promises of God’s kingdom that will come after the maelstroms and chaos of this world. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Eastern Christians developed very different traditions for confessing sin. They see the priest as a witness to God’s action, a physician, if you will, rather than a judge. A person confesses sin to God while standing in front of an icon of Jesus, face to face. Without a grill, in the full light of day, near a table with an open Gospel book, the penitent asks the Lord for mercy. A priest standing to the side might offer counsel and confirm God’s gift of forgiveness. Rather than list sins and offenses, an Eastern Christian is more likely to speak of a disposition of heart toward God and neighbor, and the desire to forgive those who have wronged them. Remarkably, although only a priest can pronounce the prayers of forgiveness, lay people, including mar-ried men and women, single Christians, monks, and nuns, may witness the confession. This is akin to the an-cient Celtic practice of a “soul friend” as a spiritual mentor. Bishops may bless anyone with sufficient theo-logical knowledge and discretion to do this. Eastern Catholics in the United States have largely drifted away from this tradition and toward Latin Rite customs such as confessional screens, set formulas and prayers, and penances. Today, in the interest of preserving the authentic tradition of the Eastern Church, there is a move to restore the older form. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

OCTOBER BAPTISMS

THE FOLLOWING BABIES BECAME MEMBERS OF GOD’S FAMILY HERE RECENTLY:

Victoria Wojtowicz, Olivia Faber, Livia Hyzny, Adriana Sosa, Jackson Marshall, Jacob Sodo, Kajetan Koziel, Adrian Fox.

We extend our best wishes to their parents and pray that what has begun in them will be brought to perfection.

We thank everyone who buys the cream pies and helps with their sales, but a very special thank you goes to Mrs. Marie Shipman who bakes them every time. Proceeds from the sales will be used for the church’s new roof.

THANKS A MILLION FOR SAVING LIVES! Women’s Care Center would like to thank all St. Albert the Great parishioners who donated to our recent baby bottle collection at the parish. The total amount collected so far is $9,600. Once again, we have been deeply moved by your generosity! You have made it possible for us to continue our life-saving and life-affirming work helping women and babies in need. We are deeply grateful to your pastor, Father Michel Zoufal, and to Bernadette Strezo, pro-life coordinator, and the pro-life committee for all their support and leadership in this event. Thanks also to those who helped pass out and collect bottles. Because of your sacrifices large and small, Women’s Care Center will be able to help save babies' lives through compassionate counseling, free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds as well as financial assistance. The moms, dads and babies we serve join us in thanking all of you and count you as one of our greatest blessings!

Antoni Brooks. Podczas Mszy Św. o godz. 10:30 rano będziemy wspólnie modlić się za Zgromadzenie Sióstr i Księży, którzy wypełniają charyzmat Zgromadzenia - służąc Bogu i Polonii w tejże Parafii. Siostry odnowią śluby zakonne.
