OVERCRAFT
2003
The Art Gallery, Haifa University
Artists’ House, Tel Aviv
OverCraft presents 15 Israeli women-artists who distinctively use an obsessive
and decorative visual language in order to reveal various aspects of
feminist-oriented issues, such as the body, woman-nature relationship,
gender labor politics and pornography.
„Obsession‟ is defined in the dictionary as a domination of one‟s thoughts or
feelings by a persisting idea, image or desire. In psychology this term is
explained as a sort of neurosis characterized by emotionally charged
compulsion. The term “compulsive-obsessive” is common to refer to any
exaggerated preoccupation with something. „Decoration‟ related to
ornamentation, beauty and craftsmanship. OverCraft will focus between
these two terms.
