Mike Whetton thanks electors for the vote of confidence in Trafford Conservatives In the first major test of electoral opinion since the formation of the coalition government last year, the voters of Trafford have given a ringing endorsement to the Conservative control of the Council in the recent elections. The Conservative Party maintained the same number of seats and is therefore clearly representing the public in running Trafford. In Ashton upon Mersey Ward, Mike Whetton was re-elected for another four year term, gaining over 50% of the ballot with 1,715 votes. In thanking the electors, Mike Whetton said “I am very grateful for the continued support of the voters of Ashton upon Mersey. Clearly, it is also a vote for Conservative policies. I have a determination to work diligently for all residents and to reflect the Conservative ways of responsibly managing the finances whilst maintaining Council services. I will continue to be available for all residents who need assistance.” Ashton upon Mersey Conservatives Meet your Ashton Councillors Councillors’ Advice Surgeries Every 2 nd and 4 th Saturday of the month, 11am to 12 noon at the Methodist Church Hall, Carrington Lane, Sale. Here, he outlines some of the exciting developments for Metrolink. Brian says “Whilst it is frustrating for passengers when the trams on the Altrincham line occasionally don’t run on time because of major incidents or there is a need to close the line for essential work (as will happen from time to time) I think you will agr ee that Metrolink is a huge success, so much so that during the peak hours overcrowding can be a problem. You may be aware that the system is expanding with yet more new trams being purchased and two new lines coming into service in the near future. The new Chorlton line will extend to Didsbury in 2013 and a service to Oldham which comes into service later this year will continue to Rochdale by Spring 2014. An additional line acro ss the city centre will be nefit commuters and relieve the line between St Peter’s Square and Piccadilly. So, the growing pains today will certainly benefit the people of Sale in the future, as Metrolink becomes the largest tram system in the country.” Raisi ng t he St andar d The newsletter from your Conservative Councillors Summer 2011 2012 is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Next year, the nation will celebrate sixty years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
