6 IPP Mega Solar Power Projects Hit Snag
EP Report Although seven giganticindependent power producer (IPP)solar power projects that receivedthe 'Prime Minister's go-aheadsignal' for implementation, thePower Division has so far been ableto sign the final contract only forone project. The lone project for which thecontract was signed is 32 MW (AC)
solar park at Dharmapasa inSunamganj district. The six other projects that have gotstuck in bureaucratic tangle, are 200MW (AC) solar park at Teknaf inCox's Bazar, 200 (AC) MW solar parkin Gaibandha, 50 MW (AC) solar parkat Sutiuakhali in Mymensingh, 30MW (AC) solar park at Gangachara inRangpur, 20 MW (AC) solar park inCox`s Bazar and 10 MWp Grid-tiedsolar power project at Goainghat inSylhet. All these 7 projects are planned tobe implemented by private sector
sponsors as independent powerproducers (IPPs) from which the state-owned Power Development Board (PDB) will purchaseelectricity over a period of 20-25 years. All the projects are being implemented on unsolicitedbasis. Of the projects, the PDB has been able to sign power purchase agreement (PPA) with the privatesector sponsor -EDISUN-Power Point &Haor Bangla - Korea Green Energy Ltd for 32 MW (AC)solar park at Dharmapasa, according to official documents.
