BOOKFAIR: WHAT A FANTASTIC RESPONSE TO OUR BOOKFAIR! Final sales will be from 8:30am to 9:00am tomorrow morning in the library. This is your last chance to buy from the Book Fair before it is returned to Scholastic.

BOOK WEEK:

Children’s Book Week will be celebrated at school from Monday 20th to Friday 24th August. As part of our celebrations there will be a whole school “Dress Up Day & Parade” on Friday, 24th

August. The theme is ‘Find Your Treasure’. We are asking students to dress up as their favourite story book character and come join in our Book Week Parade. The parade will take place in the gymnasium from 9:15am – 10:00am and parents are invited to come along. POPPING INTO SCHOOL? It is important for everyone’s safety and peace of mind, that all people who do not work at the school or attend the school as a student, report to the office first before heading off to a classroom or playground.

If you need to drop in your child’s lunch, reader or school work – please go to the office first before going to their classroom.

If you want to get a message to your child about plans that may have changed - please go to the office first before going to their classroom.

If you need to collect your child from their class to take home - please go to the office first before going

to their classroom.

If you don’t need to see your child, but need to put something in their bag - please go to the office first before going to their classroom.

If you arrive at school after 9.00am to assist in a classroom - please go to the office first before going to

their classroom.

If you arrive at school at 9.00am to assist in your child’s class eg reading parent etc – go to the classroom teacher first who will supply you with a lanyard to wear while you are at school.

DAD’S BIG DAY OUT!

All Dads, Uncles, Grandpas, Pops, Pas and special friends are encouraged to come to school on Monday 3rd September (the day after Father’s Day) and share the morning with your child/ren as they work through a normal school day. Come at 9.00am and spend the morning in classrooms or specialist areas with your child/ren. There will be a morning tea for all the Dads, Uncles, Grandpas, Pops, Pas and special friends at 10.30am in the staffroom. During Recess from 11.00am – 11.30am there will be an opportunity to play outside with your child/ren. Lots of sporting equipment will be available for use. (just don’t do a hammy!) FIRST AID SESSION:

On Monday this week, all students participated in a first aid session. Instructors from St Johns First Aid conducted the sessions. Students spent time learning about topics such as:

Resuscitation

Defibrillation

General first aid

How to perform and react safely in an emergency situation. Students were able to practice on mannequins for their first aid training. NEW FENCE:

The construction of the final section of the higher school boundary fence was undertaken this week. The whole boundary line fence available to students is now at the higher level. This allows students to play closer to the fence line, thus increasing the playground space available. I am sure this will make parents feel more at ease.

CHECK OUT THE WEBSITE!

The school website has undergone a new design. The school photos look great! The content will be updated shortly. You can check out the site at www.goonawarra.vic.edu.au PARENT OPINION SURVEY:

If you received a notice informing you that your family had been randomly selected to respond to the Parent Opinion Survey, it is extremely important that you do so. It is an online survey. The login details were in the letter you would have received. If families do not respond, then our understanding of what the community is thinking is very limited. So far 17 families out of the random sample size of 82 (27%) have responded to the survey. We are endeavouring to achieve 100% response rate. The online survey closes on Sunday 26th August. Please have your say. Your opinion is important to us.

MRS CROPLEY:

For the next few weeks, Mrs Cropley will not be at school. She has been asked to assist at the Regional Office. She will be visiting many schools and will be involved in lots of professional learning sessions. Mrs Cropley will resume her role here on Monday 3rd September. 2019 PREP TRANSITION ACTIVITIES:

Following the very successful first Prep Transition session at which over sixty children attended, the next session has been planned for Tuesday, 11th September. The anticipated Prep enrolment for next year could well be the highest in the 33 year history of the school. 2019 ENROLMENTS:

Plans for next year are well underway. This includes possible grade structures, required number of rooms, the use of available rooms, possible need for additional portables, advertising for new staff etc. It is helpful to know how many students we will be catering for. If you know of families who are exploring school options for their children (at any grade level), personal tours are always available. Invite families to contact the office on 9744 7137 to arrange a suitable time.
