“Before I formed you in the womb,

I knew you. “Please spiritually

adopt an unborn baby.”

Every day over 4,000 babies are killed by abortion. They have so little protection only the hand of God can end this massacre. Prayer is the best weapon to help them • the most effective. Say this prayer every day for nine

months to save a baby’s life!

“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much.

I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby

that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger

of abortion.” Prayer of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

On Saturday, April 9th the PTO of St. Monica School sponsored a Father/Daughter “Masquerade Ball”. It was a spectacular evening with a catered buffet, great desserts, fun and lots of dancing!. We would like to thank the mother who spearheaded the event, Kerry DeMattia, and Michelle Cotnoir, Lisa Maroon and Kristine Smith who were on her committee. This event would not happen without these moms! Thank you to all of the fathers/grandfathers/uncles and friends who came to support our girls! It was a fabulous evening.

FROM FR. Bill

A Good Shepherd – Father John Cassani As I opened my mail on Monday, the day after Good Shepherd Sunday, I received a letter that I had been promised by Cardinal O’Malley’s assistants. It was a letter formally extending Father John Cassani’s assignment in Methuen for one more year with the possibility for a second one-year extension. This is great news for all of us at St Monica and St Lucy Parishes. For many years in Boston the priests were given five-year terms in their first priestly assignment. As the priest shortage worsened those terms were reduced to just three-year terms. That change was instituted before the collaborative plan was introduced to ensure that a priest would have two different experiences in two different places in the first six years of priesthood. The hope was that the diversity of experience would better prepare a man to become pastor, if needed, after his sixth anniversary. As the collaborative process kicked in the number of pastorates has been greatly reduced and the need to rush men into pastorates is not as acute as it was before. Because of this the three-year rookie terms have been discontinued and we have gone back to a five-year term for men being ordained now. Fr. Cassani’s class was one of the last classes to be ordained into the three-year term plan. The Cardinal decided in the case of Father Cassani’s class that extensions would be strongly considered if the priest and his pastor were in agreement that it would be best for the priest and the parishes he serves. Both of us feel that it is best for him and us that he stays. To be able to have more time with the same parishioners is a great and valuable gift for a priest. We are very blessed to have Father Cassani with us for another year, and maybe two. He brings a pious and joyful nature to all that he does. He is a native of the Archdiocese and relates extremely well with our people and is a great example to the young. I know I have seen tremendous growth in him ministering and living with him over the past two plus years. He came into perhaps the most difficult pastoral situation of any of his classmates when he arrived here in the summer of 2013 and has held up to all of the changes and challenges with extraordinary grace and patience. Be sure to congratulate him when you see him, he is a tremendous gift, and a good shepherd, to us all. Peace Fr. Bill
