In addition, the precinct plays host to superyachts and cruise liners visiting the region. With such a vibrant maritime industry, Cairns is the ideal location for the sustainment and maintenance of vessels travelling through northern Australia.

All three slipways are Australian-owned and are supported by world leading partners such as Caterpillar, Cummins and MTU, and by locally-renowned partners such as CSF Industries. Prime contractors such as BAE systems and Austal also have a presence in the precinct. Combined, the Cairns Marine Precinct provides a streamlined, comprehensive service across the key areas of repairs, maintenance and fabrication. Services are cost competitive, and fast project turnaround means more time on the water

And while vessels are on the docks, crews have access to state-of-the-art training facilities through the Great Barrier Reef International Marine College. World class facilities, international air links, and direct access to the Great Barrier Reef makes Cairns Marine Precinct your premier maintenance and sustainment destination.

The shipyard includes fully enclosed maintenance halls, large laydown
and hardstand areas, and 360 metres of serviced wharf space along with facilities for hull and structural repairs, painting and blasting, engineering and fabrication, mechanical and electrical overhaul. The all-weather enclosed sheds provide a controlled environment to keep projects running on schedule regardless of the conditions outside. In addition to these facilities, the shipyard has a 1200-tonne rail slipway to accommodate a range of refit requirements and in 2019, BSE Cairns will commission the largest mobile boat hoist in the pacific. Capable of moving 1,120 tonnes, the seven-storey high mobile boat hoist will be
able to lift vessels straight out of the water for transfer to hard stands or maintenance halls which offers greater flexibility, and improved scheduling, capacity and efficiencies for cruising yacht clients. Local knowledge and long-established relationships with providers in the region allow BSE Cairns to provide clients with a wide range of services not typically expected of a shipyard. From coffee and flowers to custom piping and industrial products, the team can tailor a solution to meet customer needs, whether in the dock or out on the water. To achieve this level of service, BSE Cairns’ team includes many former members of the Australian Defence Force familiar with the unique management,
operational and reporting requirements necessary to work with Defence Prime Contractors, and with Government and Defence divisions. The company prides itself on providing a great customer experience and ensuring that docking and refit projects are run professionally. This is delivered through the team of project managers, supervisors, skilled tradespeople and general hands who have a long track record of managing costs and schedules to deliver successful projects.
